HAIR-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patqgnted J '25 Iggy Application filed April 8, 1919. Serial No. 288,814.
T '0 all to 7mm it may concern:
Be it known that I, BLANGHE E. BEADLE, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of lvlassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Supports, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements inhair supports or hair forms and consists of a device designed to be positioned on the head to provide a foundation for presenting the hair in an attractive, elevated formation.
One of the objects of the invention is the provision of a hair form, wherein the frame is formed of a single piece of wire with the terminals thereof secured in place at spaced points, and the frame is uniformly curved so that the hair may be wrapped around the form, without bulging on one side thereof, whereby the form when wrapped with hair will rest properly on the head and neatly present the gathered hair.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hair form or support, wherein the end portions of the form or support may be flexed to so adjust the form as to give a pointed or other formation to the hair wrapped thereon.
/Vith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in certain new and useful constructions combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a modified form.
Fig. 4 is a detail view of a joint.
Referring to the accompanying drawings illustrating the practical embodiment of my invention 5 designates the frame of my improved hair support or form, which frame is preferably formed of a single piece of wire and bent or shaped to provide side bars 6 and 7, end bars 8 and 9, and a cross bar 10. One terminal of the wire of which the frame is composed is twisted or secured at 11 to the side bar 7 midway of its ends, while the other terminal of the wire is secured at 12 to the side bar 6, which bar is formed of portions 6 and 6 The cross bar 10 is formed continuous with the portion 6 and the end bar 8 is formed continuous with the portion 6".
in this way the terminals of the wire frame are spaced from each other, instead of twisted or connected directly to each other, whereby no bullry knot or joint is formed, and the rigidity of the joints of the frame is greater.
A bar 13 is secured by ends to the end bars 8 and 9, mid-way of their ends, and has connection with the cross bar 10 1 midway of its ends.
The two side bars and the intermediate longitudinal reinforcing bar 15 are uniformly curved, as shown in side elevation in Fig. 2, but it is understood that the exact curvature may vary. 1
In Fig. 3 I show a modified form of the improved hair form, wherein flexible end portions are provided for giving the ends of the form or support various pointed shapes.
Referring to Fig. 3, 16 and 17 designate the end bars, which are shown to have V- shaped forms, and which are connected to the side bars 18 and 19. The side bar 18 consists of two portions, 18 and 18', the portion 18 being continuous with the end bar 16 and the portion 18 being continuous with the end bar 17 5 the terminal of the portion 18 being twisted at 20 around the portion 18 in the manner described in reference to Fig. 1, and shown in Fig. 4. The portion 18 is extended laterally of the side bar 18 to form the cross bar 21, the terminal of which is twisted at 22 around the side bar .19, mid-way of its ends.
bar 21, intermediate of the ends of said cross bar.
The bar 25 is formed with a plurality of bends therein to provide lateral waves 25, on either side of the cross bar, so that when the end bars 16 and 17 are extended or closed in, the longitudinal bar 25 may be readily lengthened or shortened as may be required.
The side bars 18 and 19, and the intermediate longitudinal bar 25 are curved in the manner shown in Fig. 2, so as to have an arched formation substantially like that of the form shown in Fig. 1.
Having described my invention I claim l. A hair form comprising a frame having longitudinal bars and connecting end bars,-and an intermediate longitudinal bar connected to the end bars, the longitudinal bars being laterally spaced from each other, and all of said longitudinal bars having a common arched formation and located in a single curved surface.
2. A hair form comprising a frame formed of side, end and connecting portions all of which lie substantially Within a single curved surface.
3. A hair form comprising a frame having a V-shaped end bar at each end thereof, and an'intermediate portion extending between said end bars, all parts of which lie substantially Within a single curved surface.
4:. A hair form comprising a frame having side portions, flexible V-shaped end portions connecting said side portions, and an intermediate bar connecting the end portions, all of which lie substantially Within a single curved surface. 7 y
5. A hair form bendable to fit the head of the wearer and comprising a frame having side portions, end portions connecting said side portions, and transverse and longitudinal connecting members connecting the side and end portions respectively, all of the parts of Which are substantially Within a single curved surface.
6. A hair form bendable to fit the head of the wearer and comprising a frame having side portions, V-shaped end portions connecting said side portions and adapted to be flexed into a variety of different shapes, and an extensible and contractible member connecting said end portions, all of said part-s lying substantially in a single curved surface.
