This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in floral structures and more particularly to a frame therefor on which the floral piece is built.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a frame or network construction for floral pieces particularly adapted for use on coiflns.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a framework construction for built up floral pieces which is adapted to retain the floral piece at a predetermined design without likelihood of the same becoming easily distorted.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the bar type of floral piece frame.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view.
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the cross members.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary enlarged perspective view of one end of the frame shown in Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a longitudinal sectional view through one of the frame supports.
Figure 7 is a side elevational view of one of the supports removed from its resilient jacket.
Figure 8 is a top plan View of the support stripped of its jacket.
Figure 9 is a cross sectional view taken substantially on line 9-9 of Figure '7.
Figure 10 is a modified form of frame in top plan View.
Figure 11 is an enlarged fragmentary transverse sectional view taken substantially on line 11-11 of Figure 10.
Figure 12 is a top plan view of an ovate shaped frame.
Figure 13 is a fragmentary sectional View taken substantially on line 13.13 of Figure 12.
Figure 14 is a sectional view taken substanals designate like parts, it can be seen in Figure mediate portions of the upper and lower members 5 and 6 and also the ends of the upper and. lower members. This cross member 4 consists of a U-shaped wire member having the lower portion 8 provided at its ends with partly closed eyes 9-9 merging into upstanding legs 10l0 terminating at their upper ends in eyes 1111. As is clearly shown in Figure 5, at the eye ends of the lower members 6 of the frame, the partly closed eyes 99 are disposed through the eyes 7'7 with the legs 10-10 upstanding so that the eyes 1111 at the upper ends thereof will receive firmly the adjacent end portions of the side rails aa of the upper member 5 of the frame.
It is preferable to employ at least two of the supports, the same being shown in detail in Figures 6 to 9 inclusive. These supports each'consist of a bar member 12 having downwardly inclined end portions'13--13. Where the end portions 13 merge with the bar 12, lugs 14 are se- 9 cured and at their free ends spaced from the bar 12 so as to engage over the side members b--b of the U-shaped lower member 6 of the frame shown in Figure 1. It is preferable to provide a tubular jacket 15 for snuglyencasing the bar 12 and its end portions 13 and in this jacket are provided splits through which the lugs 14 extend so as to be conveniently engaged over the side portions bb of the frame element 6. i
A slightly modified form of the invention is shown in Figure 10, this being a double ovate shaped structure. As is shown the end portions of this modified structure in Figure 10 are'pointed. The frame shown in Figure 10 consists of the upper and lower side members 16 and 17 and cross 1 members 18 are provided which bridge the lower side members 17 where they are formed with eyes 19 to engage around the lower side members 17 and extended upwardly as at 20 to provide connecting members between the lower side members 1'7 and the upper side members 16, the upper ends of these extensions 20 being wrapped around the upper side members as at 21. The form of the invention shown in Figure 10 is provided with a relatively heavy rod 22 which extends from one extremity of the frame longitudinally along the frame to the other extremity.
This form of the invention is also provided with supports, these supports being generally referred to by numerals 23 and constructed as shown in Figures 6 to 9 inclusive.
Another form of the invention is shown in Figure'12, this form being of the single ovate shape. In this form of the invention it is preferable to use the cross members 24 for connecting the lower side members 25 of the frame while additional short straps 26 serve to connect the lower side members 25 with the upper side members 27. A relatively heavy rod 28 extends longitudinally through the frame and connects to the tip ends of the frame.
In other instances, the upwardly extending straps 26a simply are soldered or welded to the upper side members 2'? as at 29.
This form of the invention is also provided with the same type of supports 23.
It is of course to be understood that in the use of these frames, the frame is filled with mossQIE.
some other similar material and the fiowersare stuck by their stems into the moss to follow the to conceal the framework.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
What is claimed is:
In a floral structure, a framework consistingof upper and lower side members, and a support for the said'frame, said support being provided with inwardly disposed lugs to engage over the lower side members of the frame, said support consisting of a bar provided with downwardly inclined end portions and a resilient jacket for enoasing 'the said bar and end portions, said jacket being provided with openings therein through which the said lugs can protrude.
