To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, EowAnn El. The movable cutter has a rocking; as well as a backward and forward movement in the usual vertical recess in the temple head. In this invention this movable cutter member is a single integral cast iron casting. When the heel 14 is struck by the lay the movable cutter member is swung clownwardly and projected forwardly to effect a shearing action between the cutting edges ofthe two blades to sever the filling end extending from the cloth.
In this invention the integral portion of the movable cutter member which is shaped to form the cutter blade 1.5 is chilled during the operation of the casting of the member and is thus hardened so that it may be ground oil' to present the required cutting edge 19. This materially simplifies the con struction of the movable cutter member over that heretofore employed enabling the entire member to be termed as a single casting cheaply and expeditiously. films the expense,

When the movable cutter member is in position, therefore, the cutter blade 15 diverges upwardly slightly away from the plane of the stationary cutter as may be observed in Pig. 1. This brings the cutting edge 19 close against the fixed vertical cutter blade 10 and hence if the movable cutter blade be held snugly against the fixed cutterblade an accurate and close cooperation of the two cutting edges is assured when the movable cutter member is carried forwardly by the lay to effect the cutting stroke.
The required pressure of the movable cutting blade against the fixed cutting blade is secured in a simple and effective manner by providing a somewhat resilient metal or steel plate 20 mounted vertically in the recess in the temple head parallel to the fixed cutter; blade 10. This plate 20 may be held in position by the set screw 11 already re; ferred to. In order to effect the adjustment of the plate 20,;provide for wear, and insure the contact of the plate 20 with the cutter blade 15 a set screw 21 is shown passing through the temple head abutting the plate 20 and held in adjusted position by the Lock nut 22. This plate 20 it will thus be observed bears against the cutter blade 15 at the side opposite the stationary cutter blade 10 and at the upper ortion of the cutter blade 15 thus giving the required action to insure the effective cooperation of the two cutting edges.
It will thus be seen that a thread cutting temple is provided which is extremely simple and econdmical in construction and which ingI or severing action.

4. A thread cutting temple for looms having the construction defined in claim 3 together with an' adjustable set screw in the temple head abutting the resilient plate whereby the pressure of the said plate hpbn the movable'cutter blade may be adjusted.
5. In a thread cutting temple for looms a. cutter member molded in a single integral piece from cast iron and comprising a body, a heel projecting from one edge of the body, and a chilled cutter blade projecting from another edge of the body with the cutting edge formed on the chilled portion. 1
