JORGEN JORGENSEN, 0F CRAIG, NEBRASKA.
' PUMP-JACK.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JORGEN JoncnNsEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Craig, in the county of Burt and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump-Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in pump jacks, and has for its object to provide such a construction that power may be applied conveniently and effectivelyfor pumping water or other liquids, and which will require few and'simple parts so that durability may be attained and manufacture will be economical.
The invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as described herein and claimed, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation. of a pump jack embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are enlarged details to clearly show the mounting of the rollers in the apertures of the rock-levers. Fig. 3 vis a sectional view on line Jr-3 of Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4 4 of- Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 5--5 of Fig. 1, the scale being enlarged.
In the drawing, numeral 6 indicates a pump-rod adapted to be reciprocated for elevating a liquid to be discharged from the pump 7 by actuation of a. rotatable pulley 8, said ulley being mounted to rotate with the shail; 9.
I provide a casting havin a part 10 formed as a receptacle in whic is disposed a gear wheel 11 and a pinion 12 in engagement with said gear wheel, said receptacle also being adapted tol contain a lubricating oil, said casting including a pair of legs 13 having flanges 14 adapted to be secured to a support 15.
Numerals 16 indicate ai pair of curved arms adapted to he pivotally connected with the pump-rod. At 17 is'indicated a shaft for the gear-wheel 11, said shaft having bearings in the side walls of the rece tacle 10, upon the outer ends of said shaft eing mounted a air of adjusting-disks 18.
Each dis 18 is provided with a plurality of apertures m, and certain of these a rtures are di osed nearer to the peripheries of the iisks than others, as best shown in Fig. 1. I provide a pair of rollers Specification of Letters Patent.

or wheels 19, each being mounted upon a wrist-pin 20, the inner end of each wrist-pin being adapted to be mounted in an aperture m of a disk. V
N umerals 21 indicate a pair of rock-levers, each being fulcrumed upon an arm 22 which projects horizontally from the upright casting, the inner ends of said levers 21 being provided with elongated apertures a for receiving the rollers 19, the outer ends of said levers being pivotally connected with the curved arms 16, as indicated at Z), said rollers preferably being provided with flanges c for engaging the sides of the rocklevers adjacent to the apertures a.
As best shown in Fig. 5, the casting is provided with a sleeve d which projects outwardly from one of its sides to provide bearings for an idler pulley, useful in instances when it is desired to shift a belt (not shown) from the pulley 8 thereto, this being of advantage when starting an engine.
Having described the several parts, operation will be readily understood. When the pulley v8 is rotated the pulley 12 will be actuated for rotating ,the gear Wheel 11, which causes a revoluble movement of the disks 18 for actuation of the rock-'levers 214 to reciprocate the pump-rod 6, a long stroke for the' pump-rod being effected by mounting the pins 20 in the apertures w of the disks, farthest from the centers of said disks, said pump-rod as is obvious, vhaving a comparatively short stroke when the pins 20 are disposed in `the apertures m nearer to the centers of said disks, this being of great advantage, depending upon the depth of wells and height to which water is to be pumped, and upon the degree of power ein? plo ed for operation.
. aving fully describedmy invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,'
1. In 'a pump jack, the combination of a pump-rod provided with arms, a container, shafts rovided with gear wheels and journaled 1n the walls of the container, disks provided with apertures atvarying distances from their axes and mountedon one of said shafts, a pair of rock-levers fulcrumed on the receptacle and pivotally connected with the arms of the pump-rod, a pair of wristpins each provided with a roller member and mounted in an aperture of adisk, each rock lever being provided with an elongated aperture for receiving a roller-member.
2. In a pump-jack, the combination of a pump-rod provided With arms, a casting providedv With legs and having a part formed as a Container, a revoluble shaft journaled in the Walls of the container, disks provided' With apertures at varying distances from their axes and mounted on said shaft, apertured rock-levers fulcr'umed on the casting and pivotallv connected with 10 the arms of the pump-rod, a pair of Wristpins each being mounted in an aperture of a disk, and a pair of rollers each being mounted on :L Wrist-pin und engaging in :in aperture of a rock-lever.
in testimony whereof I have uixed my 15 signature in presence of two witnesses.
