Description

M. 'H. HAMILTON.
AIR PUMP. v APPLICATION FILED DEC.3, I919.
Patented Sept. 13, 1921.
IIII I II II NI E STATES PATENT OFFICE- means It. nurwron, or ronnnsr CITY, anxaivsas.
, ,t l e a Toallwlwm itnwy concern:
Be it known that I, Mosns H. .HAMILTON, apitizenof the United States, residing at Forrest City, in the county of St. Francis and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Air-Pump, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a pump structure, and more particularly to the class of air compressors. V
The primary object of the invention is y the provision of an air compressor of this character, wherein a rocking beam serving as a see-saw has connection with power -mechanism for operating the compressor,
thus minimizing manual labor or exertion in actuating the power mechanism for multiplying, accumulating and storing power to be used for various purposes for which other and more costly power is at present applied.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an air compressor of this character, whereinthe construction thereof is novel in form so that the same can be operated manually in an easy and convenient manner.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an air compressor of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its operation, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing the view represents a vertical sectional view showin the power mechanism in side elevation o the air compressor constructed in accordance with the invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail A designates a portion of a tank having an inlet pipe B leading thereto for conveying fluid under compression therein, the pipe B being fitted with a check valve device C of any approved type so as to permit the fluid to pass into the tank or cylinder A and to prevent the same from escape therefrom through said pipe or the return of the fluid therethrough.
Adapted to be arranged adjacent to the tank A is the power mechanism which com- AIR-PUMP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 13 1921, lpplication flledpecember 8,191.9. Serial No. 342,111. a i
prisesa base frame 5, constructed in any desirable manner and having substantially medially thereof a pedestal 6, it being understood of course that two of said pedestals ,areemployed directly opposite each other,
while in the drawing but one of the pedestals is shown. J ournaled in the pedestal 6 transversely of the base frame 5 is a rock shaft 7 to which is connected a rocking beam 8, the
latter serving as a see-saw and has mounted near opposite ends thereof seats 9 to be cccupied in the operation of the see-saw.
J ournaled transversely of the frame 5 are spaced parallel driving and driven shafts 10 and 11 respectively, the shaft 10 being fitted with a main sprocket wheel 12 over which is tralned an endless sprocket chain 13 the same being also trained over a secondary sprocket wheel or pinion 14 which is fixed to the shaft 11, the latter being also fitted with a belt wheel or pulley 15 over connection with the piston rod 20 of an air compressor or pump 21, the same being formed with a lead or outlet pipe 22 connected with the casing of the check valve device C so as to establish communication with the pipe B of the boiler A, whereby on the operation of the compressor or pump 21 the elastic fluid will be forced into the tank A as will be clearly apparent.
Mounted on the shaft 10 is a disk 24 carrying a wrist pin 25 to which is connected a link 26, the wrist pin 25 being eccentrically mounted on the disk 24 and said link 26 is pivoted at 27 to one end of a lever 28, the same being pivoted at 29 in the base frame 5, the lever 28 being formed with a plurality of spaced holes 30 and likewise the rocking beam 8 is formed with a plurality of spaced holes 31 for the adjustable connection of the connecting pivot 32with said lever 28 and rocking beam 8 respectively, the pivot 32 being designed to conactuate the said see-saw When the proper compressor is to be operated.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the compressor Willbe clearly understood and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
\Vhat is claimed is:
In a motor, a base, spaced transverse shafts journaled upon said base, a pedestal an endless sprocket chain trained over the 20 gears, a disk formed on the shaft having the larger gear, a Wrist pin mounted eccentrically in the disk and having a link, a swinging lever pivoted at its end to the base and link respectively, and an adjustable 2 connection between the beam and lever.
In testlmony whereof I afiix my signature hereto.
MOSES, H. HAMILTON.
