To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, MAX SNLDER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Supplementa1 lVaterproof and Non-Slippable Tap-Sole for Shoes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in shoe soles and consists of a tap sole which is formed of a piece of soft rubber or other elastic or stretchable material having on the peripheral portion thereof a rim which is secured to said piece and having projecting therefrom clips or spurs which when the piece is properly stretched are adapted to close over and embrace the edges of the sole proper and to be retained in position by the contraction of said piece.

The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claim.

Figure 1 represents a plan view of a supplemental tap sole in normal condition for a shoe embodying my invention.

Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section of the same in operative condition including that of a sole proper to which it is attached.

Fig. 3 represents a front end view of the supplemental sole in position.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.

l designates the supplemental or tap sole which is substantially of the form of the sole proper of a shoe to which it is applicable, said sole being formed of soft rubber whereby it may be stretched and is adapted to contract.

In the peripheral portion of said sole proper is the rim 2 of metal or other material shaped to conform to the sole proper, it being embedded in the latter and so held in position. Said rim is connected at the front by its toe portion, but is open or separated Specification of Letters Patent.

at the shank-end whereby the sides of the rim may be stretched in lateral direction with the resilient sole 1 in order to apply the device to the sole proper of a shoe and then may close on the latter on the contraction of said resilient sole.

Projecting outwardly from said rim are the clips or spurs 3 which are bent upwardly and inwardly in Figs. 2 and 3 and fitted over the front and side edges of the sole proper and clipped inwardly overhanging the upper face of the sole proper and so interlocked with the latter on its sides and upper face, it being noticed that the piece of rubber of which the sole 1 is formed is smaller in length and width than the sole proper, whereby said piece requires to be stretched in order to permit the clips or spurs to be lockingly engaged with the edges of the sole proper. Then when this is accomplished, the piece is let go' when it contracts and forces the clips or spurs inwardly over the edges of the sole proper and upon the upper face of the latter and holds the supplemental sole in place, the latter thus providing a waterproof and nonslippable sole for the shoe independent of the sole proper, it being evident that by properly stretching the rubber piece the clips or spurs may be stripped from the sole proper whereby the supplemental sole is removed.

Having thus described I1'l invention what I claim as new and what desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is

A removable non-slippable tap sole formed of a piece of resilient material, a rim of metal which is secured to the side of said sole, spurs projecting outwardly from said rim adapted to embrace the sides of a sole proper, and clips on said spurs adapted to embrace the upper face of said sides, said rim being open at the shank-end thereof.
