lcs CREAM msPfNsmG DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED MAYZB, I9I9 Pat-enbedan. 4, 1921.
4 J i E:
coin recess 48 in the slide bar.
pin against the disk. The slide bar 46 and actuating spring 47 ar mou'led in the standard 17. v
A receiving chamber 64 opening upward within the casingin. position to receivethe bricks ofA ice cream as they are Adelivered4 from the container is formed by a partition 64 in ldie -front part ofthe casing chamber 12.A A trap door 65 opening outwardly from the chamber ishinged to the front of the casing. .At coin boxA 66 having' a'dor 67 adapted to be locked by a padlock 68 is fixed A to the side of the machine under the sloton 'the side of the machine opposite to the crank.
A pet cock- 69, to which arr-air pump .may
be attached,.is fixed in the side ofthe container 11 to 'provide for exhausting the air from the'vacuum jacket. Vertical guide walls 70 and 7l between which the bricksf of ice cream loosely fit'are fixed within the container. A lug '72 .formed on the lower end 'of the container casing is adapted to c0- operate with 'a similar lugr -73 fixed to the top of the machine casing, said lugs being provided with holes 74 through which a padlock .7 5 maybe fixed to lock the container and the casing together and prevent the removal of the container from the casingby unauthorized persons.
Operation: The container, having had the air completely exhausted from its vacuun'i chamber, is filled with hard frozen ice cream bricks and'screwed into place on the casing. A coin is now inserted through the outer coin slot 58 until it passes into the slot space 56. .The lever 50 is then turned whereupon Stop pins 60 and- 61v are.A taining plate 38 .isbrou ht under the'coni r eEsrAvAzLABLE coPYf the engages the upper edge of the-- coin and forces it down into the coin recess 48 in the slide bar' 46. The coinffiicess 48 in the slide.. bar being in sucha position that as the coin is forced into it, its edge engages the edge of the coin recess and fop'erates t'o further compress spring 47 andto withdraw the detcnt pin 45 from the disk 15, thus unlocking the operating parts of the machine.
The handle '14 is then pulled down in the direction .indicatedby arrow a. This turns ice cream up'on it is lowered to the' positmn' indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 2. As the eccentric .disk turns, the roller-38 fixed in its side comesinto engagement with the finger 39 causing 'it .and the radial arm's 36l and 37 to turn 'about the' shaft untilthe n retaining plate or rimfsegment 38 moves into the positionindicated in dotted lines in 2. The arrangement is such. that the re- A tainer when 'the table Fas moved downl wardly a. dista-nee approximately equal to the thickness of an ice cream brick; As the retaining platemoves into the position mdicated its free endengages the lowered brick and las'the movement is. completed shovesit ofofthe supporting table .in-to the de livery chamber 64. 'The remaining bricks' are supported b'ylthe retaining plate until the handle'is released and thei spring oper.
ates to turnfthe .'shaftind the attached parts back to theinnormal` position, whereupon the retaining plate swithdrwn by the ac? Y tion of .roller 33 upon finger 40 and the -supporting table returns to its normal position supportingthe' remaining bricks and -closing the container.- `As the' locking disk 15 .turns-on its axesin the operating move# --.ment', the 'cam' 59 is ,brought into engageL nient with the detent p in"45 forcing'it' out-` ward against the` spring 47 sufliciently toy release the coin and allow it to drop linto the coin box below. l-ln the returningmovement as the cam 59 moves away from the end of the detent pin 45,-the latter presses against the face of the disk until its normal position is reached, whereupon it is thrust into the hole 44 by the action of the spring 47, thus 12o l locking the apparatus against movement until another coin Vis inserted. It isevident that as the cam disk 18 turns to a diametrically opposite position from the normal on'c,
its edge comes into yengagement with the lower roller 32 onE the supporting bar 19, and operates to pull down the supporting table in case the weight alone is insufficient to actuate it.
T hough I have shown and described my4 130 "tailler opening downwardlyintosaid casing a movable closi'rrerfr said container a it;'a'cam fixed to said shaft-1n operative relation to said movable' closure; arms rious changes in construction and combination of parts may be madeyb those skilled in the art without departing rom the spirit of my' invention as claimed.A
I claim: p o l. An ice cream vending machine coinprising 'a casing; a thermally insulated oontainer fixed into -saidpcasing and opening downwardly thereinto; 'a receiving chamber; a movable closure for said container; and coin controlled means for withdrawing icecream bricks oneV by one .from said container and deliverin the Withdrawn bricks into said receiving c amber; said means'including a shaft; a cam fixed to said shaft in operative relation to said closure; and a retaining and ejecting plate, pivotally connected to 'said shaft in coperative .relation with said closure to withdraw bricks of 4ice cream one by one from said container and "deliverthem into said receiving chambeini' 2. An ice lcream vending-machine 'comprising we casmg;-"a"vacuum1aeketed pivoted on 'said'shafty aretaining plate fixed to saidarms in coperative relation with said closure;I fingers pivotalljv. :com y nected to said shaft in fixed relation to said arms; a pivoted roller fixed to said cam in operative relation to said fingers; and coin controlled means for unlocking said shaft" and allowing it to be operated.
all An .ice cream vending machine compysing'a casing;v a Vacuum-jacketed lcontainer fixed into said casing and opening /owrwardly thereinto a closure which also v ;,yserves as a supporting table; a slotted barl attached to the under side of said closure; a
horizontal shaft extending through the slot."
in' said slotted bar; an operating handleixe'd to said horizontal shaft; a cam disk fixed to saidhorizontal shaft; radial arms.
pivoted on said shaft; a retainin fixed to the outer ends of said`radia ari'ns; radial fingers pivoted on said shaft in iixed relation t@ said radial arms; a" 'pivoted roller fixed into one 4face of said cam disk between said radial fingers; a pair of. pivoted plate rollers fixed to said slotted bar in operative A relation withy saidI cam disk; a standard fixed tothe floor of said casing;- parallel links` pivotally connected'to said slotted bar and said standard; a -receiving'lianiberf within said' casingra trap door opening into ysaid chamber; a coin controllingmeanefor normally locking saidshaft 'butlfornnloeking.said-shaft when'acoin isdei; y i
posited therein and said means' operated, :and a spring adapted to return said shaft* to its normal operated.
In testimony whereof I have signedniyg name to this specification.-
