Description
L. M/AND W. A. RHODES.
INCENSE BURNER AND LAMP.
APPLICATION FILED 1ULY31. I919.
'1 57,824. 7 Q Patented Nov. 2, 1920.
WITNESSES INVENTORS ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATE N OFFICE.
EILLIAN MAY RHODES AND WILLIAM A, RHODES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
INCENSE-IBURNER Ann LAMP.
' Application men July 317 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LILLIAN MAY RHODES and WILLIAM A. RHODES, both citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Incense-Burner and Lamp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates. to incense burners and particularly to an improved burner and lamp and has for an object the provision of producing smoke when the burner is illuminated. 7
Another object of the invention is to pro vide an incense burner and lamp with an opening in the top of the lamp for permitting the rays to be projected from the lamp and also for permitting the escape of the smoke from the burner so that an illumi nation of the smoke will be provided without affecting the usual illuminating results secured by the lamp.
Afurther object, more specifically, is the provision of a lamp provided with a shade having an opening in the top so that both the smoke and direct illumination may, pass through the top while the shade effect is retained for the remaining part of the illumination. i
In the accompanying'flrawing:
Figure 1 is a side view of a lamp and burner embodying the invention, certain parts being broken away for better illustrating the construction.
. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the constructlon shown in Fig. 1, with the shade and the I incense cup remove Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a base and 2 the standard or stem of the lamp which may be of any desiredkind, as for instance an electric lamp. The upper end of the standard 2 is provided with a fitting 3 having pipes 4c and. 5 in which the wires respective bulbs 6 and 7 wardly from the fitting 3 at angle, are a plurality of arms 8 connected together at the upper end by anannular ring 9. Each of the arms 8 is provided with a depending bracket 10 connected with or formed integral with a ring 11 which is designed to receive and hold in lace a cup 12 which receives the incense. he ring 9 are Iplaced for the xtending upany desired Specification of Letters Patent.
size as. the ,ring9 so that acts as a support for the shade 13, said shade having an opening 14 substantially the same the smoke 15 may freely pass up from the burning incense 16. At night the shade 13 would prevent any one from seeing the smoke if it extended completely over the bulbs 6 and-7, but with the opening 14 some of the direct rays from the bulbs 6 and 7 will be directed against the smoke 15 as it rises, the remaining rays either passing through the shade 13,0r being defiected downwardly in the usual manner. In this way the usual effect of an ordinary electric lamp with ashade is provided while at the same time the smoke from the incense may be readily seen. The opening at the top also permits the cup 12 to be removed at any time. Q
What we claim is: j
1. A combined electric lamp and incense burner comprising a support, electric bulbs arrange on said support, a dome carried by said support having an opening at the top through which part of the rays from the bulbs are projected, and a cup arranged immediately below said opening in line therewith for receiving incense whereby when the incense is burning the smoke moves upwardly said smoke will be illuminated.
2. A combined lamp and incense burner comprising a stand, means for holding electric bulbs on said stand, a supporting frame connected with said stand, a shade carried by said supporting frame, said shade being open at the top so that thelight will be projected therethrough uninterruptedly, and a removable incense burner supported by said frame.
be projected therethrough, and a removable incense carrying cup positioned in the lamp structure with its upper edge below the top of the lamp structure whereby it isout'of Patented Nov. 2, 1920. 1919. Serial No.314,418.
sight While the smoke from said incense may freely pass upwardly in the illumination provided by the source of light.
5. A combined lamp and incense burner vcomprising a lamp construction including a frame having an annular shade support n and an annular ring, and an incense carrying cup having an annular flange fitting over said annular ring, the shade on'said shade support having an opening through which the smoke and the illumination from the lamp structure passes.
6. A combined lamp and incense burner comprising a support, an illuminating memher on said support, a dome carried by said support formed so that some of the rays of the illuminating member will pass through wmaa the upper part thereof, and means for carrying incense positioned to discharge. a smoke therefrom into said rays."
7 A combined incense burner and lamp comprising a support, illuminating means carrying incense, said means being positioned' to discharge the smoke from the incense into the air above the center of the dome so as to be illuminated by said illuminating means.
