Be it known that I, GEORGE :S. KELLEY, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and resident of the city of Cranston, in the county of rovidence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bow-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bow holder hair dress retaining device; and has for its object'to provide such a device which is simple and inexpensive in construction and on namental in appearance and one which is adapted to releasably engage a ribbon or other hair ornament and hold it in position on the hair of the wearer.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings, 10 designates the base portion of my improved retaining device, which may be mounted on any suitable hair connector 11. This base-portion 10 has an ear-member 12 formed at the rear end thereof, which eanmember is pierced as at 13 and then twisted to stand at a right angle to the plane of the base to form one member of the joint.

The front or opposite end of the base plate is preferably turned up as at 14 and the upturned end turned inwardly as at 15 forming a retaining hook.

The ribbon-retaining yoke-member 16 is preferably formed from a resilient plate struck up into any suitable and ornamental shape. This yoke is provided with a joint ear 17 which is also pierced at 18 and is, like the ear on the base plate, twisted at a right angle to the plane of the yoke. side by side and a rivet 19 preferably of tubular form is passed through the eyes 13 and 18 and" headed on opposite sides thereof forming a firm pivoting joint on which the yoke may be swung. The forward end 20 of this yoke member is preferably provided with an eye or recess 21 which is adapted to be engaged by the hook 15, the inherent spring in the body of the oke serving .to cause it to spring outwardfy to releasably hold its pierced end in engagement with the said hook 15.

In order to limit the forward swing of the yoke so that it can not be swung down over the hook when not engaged thereby and also to exert a greater engaging tension on the retaining hook, I have provided a lip or stop finger 21 on the edge of the yoke and have turned the same inwardly across the edge of the ear-portion 12 of the base-member, whereby this stop will engage the ear l2 and so limit the forward motion of the yoke.

The base member of this fastener may be connected in any suitable way to a hair connector but I have shown the same as connected to a hair-curling device 11 by means of the rivet 22.

By my improved construction of pivot joint the yoke member is supported firmly upon the base-member thus avoiding the usual loose and shaky connectionmade between these parts.

The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the me chanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.

I claim:
