srtoummsrmr HOLDER.
Application filed November 13, 1924. Serial No. 749,701.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN V. Prrcmm and J 0113' F. BABBI'I'I, citizens :of the United States, and residents of Louisville, inthe county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Shoulder-Strap Holders," of
' which the following is a specification.
Our present invention relates to improvements in shoulder strap holders, or'lingerie clasps as they are frequently called, and aims to provide an economical article which is light and ofneat and attractive appearance, which will be practically invisible under the thinnest cloth, which can be easily and-quickly attached, and'its manner of use With these and other objects in view, the invention includes the novel features of construction and arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter. described, the precise nature and scope of our-inventlonbeing defined by the claims a pended hereto.
An embodiment 0 our invention is illus- Figure 1 isa view of one face of the clasp. 2 is a view of the opposite face, and 1 s. closedposition respectively and Fig. 5 shows the manner of attachment and use of the clasp.
Referring by reference characters to this drawing, the numeral 1 designates a bar or attaching member which is designed to be sewed to the under side or inner face of the outer body garment, and is preferably composed of transparent or translucent celluloid, which while stiff enough to retain its shape, is flexible or resilient enough to accommodateitself to thepurve of the shoulder without discomfort to the wearer. The end portions are provided with notched edges 1? so that the member may be quickly attached by sewing over and over, and without the necessity of passing the needle through a sewing eye or opening. 2 designates the shoulder strap engaging or retaining memher, which comprises a piece of elastic webbing or tape, preferably of slightly less width than thebar or member 1. One end, 2?, is doubled back upon itself and secured to member 1 adjacent one end thereof by suitable means, such as a clip of bendable metal 3 which is clamped around the bar accompanying drawing, in
3 and 4 are edge views in open'and and tape, thereby holding the two firmly together; 'A similar clip 4 is clamped around the tape at a short distance from the opposite or free end, which clipis provided with a hook-shaped projection 4 desi ned to engage'yan eye or opening 1" in t e bar, the
.tape extending beyond the clip to provide a portion to be grasped'bythe thumb and I finger of the user, which extended preferably terminates in a reinforcing tip which prevents raveling' of the tape end, and
also facilitates graspin ortion -The. clip is applied to the tape in such position that when the latter is in unattached position and the tape relaxed, the
hook rests short'of the hole. When the has has been ap lied to the garment and it is desired to e ect engagement ofthe holder with the shoulder stra of the under arment, the tape. is passe under the sho der strap and stretched until the hook enga s the eye of the bar, where it will be e ectlvely held by the tension of the tape.
. Having thus described our invention, what we claim is l. "An article jof the class described, compr1s1ng a carrying member having means for attachment to a garment, and a retaining membercomprising an elastic tape havmg one end ermanently attached to said carrying mem er adjacent one end'thereof,
said tape having its free portion provided with a hook for engaging an eye in the carrying member.
' 2. An article of the class described, comprising a can ing member havingnotches 1n the sides a jacent each end, and a holding member comprising an elastic tape having one end permanently connected to said carryin member adjacent the notches at one en thereof, the free' portion of said tape being provided with means for detachable engagement with the carryin member.
3. An article of the class described, comprising a carrying member havin notches in the sides adjacent each end, an a holding member comprising an elastic tape having 'one'end permanently connected to said carrying member adjacent the notches at one end thereof, the free portion of said tape being provided with a hook or projection for engaging an eye inthe carrying member.
4. An article of the class described, comprising an elongated carrying, member having garment attaching means, an elastic tape,
said tape permanently to said carrying member adjacent one end thereof, said carrying member having an eye adjacent to the other end, and a metallic clip clamped to the free portion of said tape'and carrying a projection. for engaging said eye, said last named clip being so positioned on the tape that when engaged with said eye the tape is stretched.
5. In a shoulder strap clip a resiliently flexible elongated non-metallic member having'means adjacent its ends whereby they may be secured to the under side of agar- 'a metallic clip clamping one end of ment shoulder leaving the intervening por- 15 tion unattached, a stretchable tape carried by the under face of said member, 'a clip securing one end of said tape to said member and a hook carried by the free portion of said tape and adapted to engage an e e in 20' said non-metallic member, said cli an said eye being spaced from the en s thereof whereby the same are left free for ready attachment. I
In testimony whereof, we afiix tures. Y t
JOHN V. PILCHER. JOHN F. BABBITT.
