ALFRED RIDING, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
WINDOW-SEAT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 31, 1920.
Application filed September 27, 1918. Serial No. 255,923.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for supporting the device from parts of the Window frame and to make the device adjustable to fit different sizes of frames.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described,
illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to. the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a plan view, with parts broken away, of my device in a window.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 isasection on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
In these views 1 indicates the sill of the window, 2 the sides of the frame thereof and 3 the beads in said side. My device has the base or seat portion formed of two sections, indicated by the numerals 4 and 5. The under-section 5 is of channel form and receives the upper-section 4. .The flanges on the section 5 are provided with grooves to receive the edges of the section Thus said sections are slidingly connected together. The outer end of each section is provided with slots 6 to receive the beads 3 of the frame so as to hold the device on the Window. The under face of thelower section 5 has secured thereto the bars 7 which are adapted to engage the outer part 8 of the sill. These bars form a rest for the device. A back support 9 is hinged to the.
upper section 4 and said support may be braced in upright position by the hooks 10 carried by the eye-bolts 11 on the support and having their other ends movably en gaging the eyebolts 12 on the section 4:. If desired I may locate knobs 13 on the sections to facilitate the sliding of the same.
It will thus be seen that the device may be quickly placed in a window and that the same will be firmly held therein by the'slots engaging the beads and by the bars resting on the sill. When the device is to be removed it is simply necessary to move the sections toward each other and then lift the device out. of the window. The back sup-V port may be folded over on to the base so that the device will occupy but little space.
The device may be used as. a support for plants and the like .by removingthe back support and placing a strip around the edges of the sections to hold the pots thereon.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features 7 of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood thatI may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I Vhat I claim is v A window seat comprising a lower base board having upwardly extending flanges at its front and rear edges, said flanges having grooves therein, an upper base board mounted on the lower board and having its edges engaging said grooves, the outer end edge of each board having notches therein for engaging the window beads and a back support hinged to the upper base board.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ALFRED RIDING.
