BAGGING DEVICE.
Application filed November 19, 1928. rSerial No. 320,388;
This invention relates to bagging devices shown there isprovided ay basewliich con-` and has special reference to a device arsists'of an annular member 10 having cross ranged to hold a bag in upright and open pobars .11 secured by their ends thereto iso that" sition for filling. a species of grating is formed. At diametri- 5 One important object of the invention is cally opposite points on the ring 10 areupf5 to provide a device of this description ot rightslt?, and bracesl are used to hold these f novel general construction and arranged for upriglits at right angles to the base formed portability. bv the ring and bars 11. Preferably the A second important object of the invention uprights are formed from the same piece of lo is to provide a device of this description esrod steel, the steel being bentto provide ai 60 pecially adapted to be used in connection cross member 14 atthe top of the upriglits with a pair of scales for weighing the eonso that their upper ends are connected. Also tents of the bag. this cross member is bent upwardly `at the A third important object of the invention middle to provide a suitable hangery eye or 15 is to provide an improved device of this debend 15. Mounted slidably on each `upright f6 scription adjustable for different heights of is a sliding member or slide 16 and at each end bags, of this sliding member isa clamping bolt 17 A fourth important object ot the invenprovidedwith a Wingnut. Pivoted on these tion is to provide a device of this description bolts 17 are the ends of pairs of half hoops having a novel arrangement oi" bag lip or each consisting of an outer member 18 andan 70 mouth holder in combination with an iminner member 19concentric witheacliother proved shield or screen to keep material, and arranged to act like embroidery hoops being placed in the bag from one side, from on the upper `or mouth edge of a bag B. lt falling out on the other side as the bag is will be noted from Figure that thematerial `filled up. of the bag at its mouth is doubled inwardly 75 With the above and other objects in view over the outer halfhoops 18 and then the as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention inner half hoops turned to engage this mouth consists in general of certain novel details portion andpclamp it against the outer half oi' construction and combinations of parts hoops. Lips 2O are provided on the inner hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the half hoops 19 to stop these hoops from pass-` so accompanying drawings and specifically ing too tar downwardly. .y
claimed. In the form of the device shown in Figln the accompanying drawings like characure 6 it will be` seen. that ythe sliders consist ters of reference indicate like parts in the ofL two similar'members 21 which are bowed ,r

Similarly, in 90y line 3-3 of Figure 1. the form shown in Figure 5 the slider con- Figure L1- is a section on the line 4-4 ot SISS Of a pall 0I" Cooperating oppositely Figure 2. bowed members 23 but in this case there `is Figure 5 is an enlarged detail section on the PI'OVlCld 0n each side of the upright 12 a line 5-5 of Figure 2 but showing only the Clamping lOOll/ and nut 24h e 95 v attachment or" the bag mouth hoops to the The screen used herewith consists ola strip slide. of canvas or other ysuitable flexible material` Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 5 but as indicated at 25 and rings 26. passing showing a modified form of slide. through eyes in theL top edge of this screen y In the embodiment of the invention here or shieldservetoholdthis edge to the cross 10o bar 14. Similarly, rings 27 connect the side edges of the strip to the uprights 12, the strip being formed in such manner that it may'bulge outwardly at its lower end to fitV over the half hoops on one side or the other of the device and assume the position shown by the dotted lines in Figure 2.
It will now be obvious that the bag, whatever its height, may be held in upright open position with its bottom resting on the base of the invention and that the screen 25 may be adjusted to either side of the hagas may be most convenient. Then the bag may be filled from the side opposite the screen, which may be called the front, and there will be no danger that articles placed therein will roll over the opposite edge or back lof the bag.
The eye 15 may beused to connect to a hoist or scales as is found desirable.
There has thus been provided a simple and eieient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified. y
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing `from the material spirit thereof.y It is not, therefore, de- 'sired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all suchas properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described theinvention, what is claimed as new, is:
l. In a bagging device,'a pair of standards, bag edge clampingv hoops carried by said standards, and a flexible shield attached at its sides to said standards and having its lower portion engaging theioutside of a respective hoop. Y
2. In a bagging deviee,a pair of standards, bag edge clamping hoops carriedA by said standards, a fiexible shield attached at its sides to said standards and having its lower kportion engaging the outside of a respective hoop, and a cross bar at the top of said standards to which the upper edge of the shield is attached.
3.V In a bagging device, .a base, apair of standards extending i upwardly from said base, oppositely disposed pairs of bag edge clamps supported from said standards, the members of each pair being concentrically Varcuate and pivoted together at their ends, means to clamp the membersof each pair in bag holding position, and a flexible shield attached at its sides to said standards above clamps and havingy its lower edge engaging the outer member of a selected pair of clamping members.
4. In a bagging device, a base, a pair of `standards extendingv upwardly from said base, oppositely disposed pairs of bag edge clamps supported from said standards, the members Vof each pair being concentrically arcuate and pivoted together at their ends. means to clamp the members of each pair in VILLIAM J OS.
