automatic filling replenishment loom provided with a feeler for detecting substantial exhaustion of filling in the running shuttle and effecting transferbefore complete exhaustion takes place. 1
This difficulty is obviated'by the present invention by means of a mechanism which stops the operation of the loom if the supply offilling carriers has become exhausted,
or if a fresh filling carrier is not in position for transfer in the hopper, and in the .a movement of the knock off link 12 thus rocking the lever 13 to throw the shipper handle 14 out of its retaining notch andallow it to spring to the end of its slot and disconnect the driving power thus stopping the loom all in a familiar and well known manner.
In the present invention a feeler 15 shown as a fiat metal finger is mounted on a stud 16 journaled ina bushing 17 threaded into the hopper stand 5, and so positioned that the curved end of the feeler rests against the butt of the filling carrier 6 when it is in position in the hopper ready for transfer.
The stud 16 at its opposite end has" locked thereto by a set screw 18 a collar 19 provided with an upstanding arm 20 connected by a link 21 which runs rearwardly back to and is connected to a bell crank lever 22 mounted adjacent the banks of the drop wires of the Warp stop motion. The other arm of the bell crank lever 22 has 'pivotally suspended therefrom an auxiliary drop wire 23 which is positioned atthe end of one of the banks of drop wires. A light spring 24 coiled about the link 21 and abutting at one end a shoulder 25 on the loom arch 26, and at the other end a collar 27 on the link tends to move the link'rearwardly.
The operation will now be apparent. So long as a filling carrier 6 is in place in the hopper in position for transfer, the feeler 15 is held in its normal elevated position with the parts in the position shown in Fig.
'1 and with the auxiliary drop wire 23 elevated. If replenishment takes place and another fresh filling carriercomes into position for transfer the parts are retained in this position and nothing happens. If, however, transfer takes place and the supply of fresh; filling carriers in the hopper has become exhausted or if for any other reason no fresh filling carrler comes mto pos1t1on for transfer there is nothing to support the feeler 15 and it consequently through the action of gravity or aided by thespring 24 falls or swings downwardly'about its pivot. This results in moving the link 21 rearwardly, in rocking the bell crank 22, and allowing the auxiliary drop wire 23 to drop between the box plate 10 and the-vibrating feeler bar 11.1'Ihis is the same action as the falling of a drop wire and consequently the loom is immediately stopped through the action of the warp stop motion. The
' operative then replenishes the hopper or places a fresh filling carrier in position on the hopper ready for transferand consequently no operation of the transferring mechanism can take place without a fresh filling carrier actually being transferred.
In the construction illustrated in Fig. 1 the feeler is shown as positioned to'indicate the absence of a fresh filling carrier from transferring position, but it'is obvious that this is but one of the. predetermined positions, which the feeler may occupy. Its
broad function is in detecting a predetermined degree of depletion of the supply of fresh fillingcarriers in the hopper or in detecting the absence of a fresh filling carrier at a predetermined point in the hopper. In Fig. 3 the feeler 28 is shown as arranged to detect the absence of the fresh filling carrier at a different point as for example the third one away from transferring position.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- V 1. An automatic filling'replenishing loom comprising a rotary hopper containing a supply of separately supported freshi filling carriers, means for detecting absence of 'a fresh filling carrier from the hopper at a predetermined point in its rotation, and mechanical means controlled by the detecting action of the'detecting means to effect the stopping of the loom. V
2. An automatic filling replenishing loom comprising a rotary hopper containing a supply of separately supported fresh filling carriers, means for detecting absence of a stopping means, a Warp stop motion including a plurality of drop wires each'movable into position to effect the actuation of the loom stopping means, and means controlled by the detecting actionof the detecting means to move one of the drop Wires into position to effect the actuation of the loom stopping means.

An automatic filling replenishing loom comprising a hopper containing a supply of fresh filling carriers for successive transter to the lay, means for detecting absence of a fresh filling carrier from. transferring position, loom stopping means, a Warp stop motion. including a plurality oi? drop Wires each movable into position to eliect the actuation oi the loom stopping means, and means controlled by the detecting action of the detecting means to move one of the drop wires into position to effect the actuation of the loom stopping means.
An automatic filling replenishing loom comprising a hopper containing a supply of tresh filling carriers for successive transfer to the lay, means for detecting the failure ot the hopper .to present a fresh filling carrier in position for transfer, loom stopping means, a warp stop motion including a plurality of drop Wires each movable into position to effect the actuation of the loom stopping means, and means controlled by the detecting action of the detecting means t0 move one of the drop Wires into position to effect the actuation of the loom stopping means.
6. An. automatic filling replenishing loom comprising a rotary hopper containing a supply of separately supported fresh filling carriers for successive transfer to the lay, a movable :lfeeler held against movement by a filling carrier in position in the hopper for transfer to the lay, loom stopping means, and mechanical connections thereto for eliecting the actuation of the loom stopping means by or through the inevement of the feeler whereby absence of a fresh filling carrier from position in the hopper for transfer efi ects the stopping of the loom.
