To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARCHIE C. Ross, a citizen of the .United States, residing at Atchison, in the county of Atchison and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Awning-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to awnings, particularly to securing means therefor, and. has for its object the provision of a novel bracket structure whereby the top rod of an awning may be held properly in place, the bracket structure being further equipped with a guide roller or pulley about which the operating cord or cords of the awnings for raising and lowering the same, may be trained.

An important object is the provision of a device of this character in which means is provided whereby the top rod may be quickly and easily disengaged from the brackets when desired.

An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly eliicient in use, durable in service, and a general improvement in the art.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown my device as comprising an attaching plate 10 of suitable size and "shape provided with holes 11 for the passage of securing members such as screws or the like. Extending from the face of the plate 10 are spaced parallel outwardly extending plates 12 which are connected intermediate their ends by a transverse rivet 18. Journaled between the lower ends of the plates 12 is a grooved pulley or roller 14 rotatable upon the rivet 15. At their upper ends the plates 12 are formed with recesses 16 within which is engaged the top rod A of the awning. After the rod A is in position in the recesses it is necessary to prevent it from dislodgment therefrom and to accomplish this I make use of a bolt 17 whlch has one end coiled about the rivet 18, as shown, and which has its other end threaded, as shown at 19. Associated with this bolt is a plate 20 which is adapted to bridge the upper ends of the plates 12 and which is formed with a hole 21 for the passage of the bolt 17. I further provide a nut 22 threaded upon the bolt 17 and engaging against the top of the plate 520 for holding the plate firmly in engagement with the awning rod A and with the upper ends of the plates 12.

In the use of the device it will be seen that any necessary number may be employed, depending upon the width of the awning or the number of points at which it should be supported. The brackets being in position with the bolts 17 so positioned that the plates 21 will be in non obstructing relation to the recesses 16, the top rod A of the awning is engaged in the recesses 16. The bolts 17 are then swung to bring the plates 20 over the upper ends of the plates 12 to form closures for the recesses 16 and the nuts 22 are then screwed downwardly, tight against the plates 20. When necessary to remove the awning the reverse operation is followed. It will be observed that the grooved pulley 14 at the lower part of the bracket provides means for gulding the operating cords used in raising and lowering the awning. The engagement of the ropes with the pulley is not shown as it is believed to be unnecessary.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:
