WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug.` 3, 1920.
Application filed November 30, 1A918.` Serial No. 264,843.
To all whom t may Cof/zown:
Be it known that I PAUL R. ZIECHE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Moville township, in the county of Woodbury and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IVrenChes, of which the following is a specification.
The invention aims to i provide an improved readily-adjustable nut-wrench.
Furthermore, the invention contemplates a nut-wrench thoroughly efficient and durable, yet inexpensive in manufacture.
Vith these and other objects in view,A the invention consisting in the construction, combination, and novel arrangement of paits will be fully understood from the following description, yreference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, of which,- 1
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a wrench constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan of the same; l
F ig.` 3 is a side elevation of the same, the movable jaw and adjoining handle being shown in section; and
Fig. t is a rear elevation of the movable jaw.
Although I have illustrated and herein- Vafter described the preferred embodiment of the invention, I would not be understood as being limited to the specific structure choseny for illustration, for various alterations and modifications may be made in thedetails of construction and arrangement ot parts, without departing from the spirit and scope ofv the invention, as defined in the appended claims.
Referring, now, to the illustrations, the device embodies anA elongated flat-sided handle, 5, having at its forward end a fixed head, 6, formed with a laterally-disposed aw, 7. The free jaw, '8, is disposed laterally to the handle, and in parallelism with the fixed jaw, and movable on the handle toward and from the companion jaw, the movable jaw krection of its companion.
of the handle, 5, and are pivoted as at 12, to
the jaw, 8, the sides of the jaw being provided with recesses, 18, to receive the arms, 11, and render them flush with the sides of the jaw.
The side of Vthe adjusting handle adjacent the handle, 5, is studded, as at 14, for engagement with teeth, 15, on the latter handle. V
It is now clear that the jaws may be readily adjusted to fit a nut by disengaging the adjusting handle from the toothed handle, then moving the jaw, 8, until both jaws engage opposite sides of the nut, and then rengaging the handles. Obviously, the wrench should be so applied to the work that the power to turn the wrench will' be applied on the adjusting handle in the di- IIaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,-
1. A wrench comprising a flat-sided handle having a laterally-disposed jaw, a jaw having an opening through which the handle'passes, said opening and handle being so related that thcvsecond jaw may slidetoward and from, and be at all times in parallelism with the firstY jaw, an adjusting handle positioned on the side of said first handle remote from the jaws, and arms on the adjusting handle extending across and disposed on opposite sides of said first handle and pivoted on the movable jaw, one of said handles being toothed and the other studded for engagement with the teeth.
2. A wrench comprising a fiat-sided handle having a laterally-disposed jaw, a jaw having an opening through which the handle passes, said opening and handle being so related that the second jaw may slide toward and from, and be at all times in parallelisln with the first jaw, an adjusting handie positioned on the side of said first handleremote from the jaWs,-and arms on the adjusting handle, extending across and disposed on opposite sides of said first handle, and pivoted to the movable jaw, the movable jaw being provided With recesses to receive
