WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 14:, 1919.
Application filed. April 4, 1917. Serial No. 159,714.
where the ordinary wrench works with difliculty.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide the wrench with a double set of jaws so that a nut can be removed as easily as it can be placed in position.
Another object of the invention is to make the two sets of jaws with teeth on one set.
on the opposite side of those on the other set so as to facilitate the turning of the nut on and off by the jaws.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a front view of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side View thereof.
In these figures, 1 represents the body of the wrench provided with an enlarged head 2 at each end. Said body part is curved at one end as at 3 to throw the head 2 to one side of the longitudinal plane of the wrench and is bent at 4. in the opposite direction to throw the head 2' to the other side of the longitudinal plane of the wrench. The heads are provided with jaws 5 and 6 and one of said jaws 5 is provided with teeth 7', while the opposite member of the jaws 6 is provided with teeth 8.
It will be seen that when a nut is to be removed from a flat surface the jaws will rest on the said surface while engaging the nut, though the handle part will lie above said surface, thereby allowing the said handle to be firmly gripped by the hand of the v operator.
When the nut is to be replaced the other head is used, as the teeth on the two heads are provided on opposite jaws, so that one head is used for taking the nut ofi, while the other is used for putting the same on.
It is thought from the foregoing that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
An improved article of manufacture comprising a single bar of metal having its ends enlarged laterally to form a head at each end of said bar, each head being provided with a pair of jaws arranged in the same plane with their respective heads, said bar having oppositely extending facewise offsets adjacent each head to throw said heads out of alinement with each other and with the bar,
both of said heads being parallel with the body of the bar and with each other.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses:
J. D. Srron, C. J. WATT.
