DAVIS MARINSKY, or NEW YORK, n. Y.
SHOE-SOLE PROTECTOR.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, DAVIS MARINsKY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Sole Protectors, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view showing my improved shoe sole protector and indicating the method of applying the same;
Fig. 2 a bottom plan view thereof; .Fig. 3 a top plan view of the protector detached; I
Fig. 4 a side view; and, v Fig. 5 another side view showing a modi.-'
' fication.
In the accompanying drawing, 1 have indicated at a the toe portion of a ladys shoe of modern style, said toe portion being tapered as indicated and, in the practice of my invention, 1 provide a protector b for the pointed end of the sole of this shoe. The protector b is approximately trian lar in general form but the apex or pointe end 5 thereof is rounded to correspond with the shape of the pointed end of the sole of the shoe, and said protector is made of sheet metal and is composed of a base plate or portion 6 the toe portion of which is provided with a raised rim member 6 having an inwardly directed top flange b and said raised rim member I) and the top flange 6 thereof extend around said toe portion of the protector and about halfway along the sides thereof, as clearly indi- .cated in Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 5 of the drawing.
The base plate or portion. 6 is provided centrally of the toe portion thereof with a circular aperture 6 with which'communi- Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J une 15, 1920 Application filed November 3, 1919. Serial No. 335,395. r I I cates a central longitudinal slot or opening b, which opens backwardly and forms a recess in the base or bottom portion b and is intended to give slight elasticity to the protector or to permit of a slight lateral movement of the side portions 6 thereof.
The side parts of the base plate or portion I) are provided with upwardly directed teeth or prongs b formed from the material thereof, and in the use of this device it is forced backwardly onto the toe of the sole of the shoe as indicated in the drawing, and in this operation the rim and flange members 6 and b overlap the toe of the sole of the shoe, and the adjacent side edge portions thereof, as will be readily understood and aid in holding the protectorv on the sole, and the teeth or prongs 6 are also driven into the sole as indicated in Figs. 1 and 4, and said teeth or prongs in .connection with the flange and rim members 6 and b will securely hold the protector on the. toe portion of the sole of the shoe, as will be readily understood.
In Fig. 5 l have shown a modification of the protector in which the central part of the rim member I) is provided with a backwardly directed tooth or prong 6 which is formed from the material thereof and in forcing or driving the protector onto the toe portion of the sole of the shoe, as here inbefore described, this tooth or prong enters said toe portion of the sole of the shoe and aids in holding theprotector thereon as will be readily understood.
It is a well known fact that in the use ofvan extent as to make expensiverepairs immediately necessary, if the shoe is not to be thrown away, and with my improvement these repairs maybe quickly and easily made by the owner of the shoe, or the protector or protectors may be applied in the first instance before the toe portion of the sole of the shoe is worn away, andthus prevent such operation or injury to the shoe.
It will be understood that these devices may be made up in different sizes and kept in stock by any shoe dealer, and in the operation of attaching the protector or protectors to a shoe, as described, the aperture b and the slot b which communicates therewith gives the side portions thereof a slight elasticity, and this also adapts the device for use in connection with shoes, the
toe portions of the soles of which are of slightly difi'erent transverse dimensions.
I" also preferably provide the side portions 6 or therlm members 6* thereof,
with inwardly and forwardly directed soles of shoes comprislng a plate adapted to closely fit and conform with the toe portion of a shoe and provided with a rim which incloses a partof the edge portion of the sole, and prongs cut insaid rim and which are normally in the plane of said rim, and adapted to be pressed into and embedded in the edge portions of the sole of the shoe to securely hold the protector in connection therewith.
2. The herein described protector for the toe portions of the soles of shoes, said protector comprising a base plate fashioned to conform with the toe portion. of the sole and provided with a raised rim and the side portions of said rim being provided with forwardly directed prongs cut from the material of said rim and lying normally in the plane of said rim and adapted to be pressed inwardly to embed the same in the edge portions of the sole after the protector has been placed thereon and to securely hold the protector in position against forward movement on the sole.
3. The herein described protector for the toe portions of the soles of shoes, said protector comprising a'base plate fashioned to conform with the toe portion-of the sole and provided with a raised rim having an inwardly directed flange, the base plate being cut out to form springmembers, means for securing the base plate, or the separate members thereof, to the sole of the shoe,
the side portions of said rim being provided J with forwardly directed V-shaped prongs normally in the plane of said rim and adapted to be pressed inwardly to embed the same in the edge portions of the sole after the protector. has been connected therewith and to securely hold the protector against forward movement on thesole, and
said rim being provided centrally thereof with an inwardly directed prong adapted to pass into the toe portion of the sole.
.In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my inventlon I have signed my name,
in presenceof the subscribing witnesses, this 31st dayof October, 1919 DAVIS MARINSKY.
