To all whom it may concern:

lie it known that I, HARRY D. TWOMBLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Madison and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Arbor-Presses, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an arbor press and has for its object to provide an arbor press with a base.

rmother object of the invention is to provide a device for readily removing small gears or pulleys from shafts and for removing or inserting bushings.

With the above and other objects in view, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a top plan view of my 1mproved arbor press shown in operation, certain members shown being in section,

Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof,

Like reference chara ters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and. in the several views in the drawings in wh ch 1 indicates an arbor press which consists of a yoke 2 through which the screw 3 is threaded, said arbor having a bar t reduced in width to receive the bifurcated ends and (3 of the puller arms 7 and 8 v-shich are pivoted thereto by means of pins 5) and 10. The yoke 52 has a plurality of openings 11 and 12 whereby said arms 7 and S may be adjustably secured thereto. The arms 7 and 8 have jaws 13 and 14 on the free ends. The arms 7 and 8 seat in the bifurcatcd ends 15 and 16 of the base plate 17 and a re held thereto by means of the pins 18 and 19 passing through openings pro vided in the arms 7 and 8 and the arms of said bifurcated ends 15 and 16. The base plate 17 has a relatively large recess 20 adapted to straddle or receive a shaft 21 Specification of Letters Patent.

from which it is desired to remove a gear 2-2. The joint 28 is centered on the end of the shaft 21 and the screw 3 operated whereby the press is caused to separate or pull. the gear 22'fron1 the shaft. The jaws 13 and 14 engage the surface 23 of plate 17 thereby relieving the pins 18 and 19 from strain. The plate 17 may be removed and the device used in the usual manner.

Having now described my invention, that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:-

1. The described device consisting of a yoke, arms hinged thereto and a base plate to which said arms are connected and a screw threaded through the yoke.

2. The described device consisting of a yoke, arms hinged thereto, and a base plate to which said arms are connected and a screw threaded through the yoke, said plate having bifurcated corners between which said arms are secured.

3. The described device consisting of a yoke, arms hinged thereto, a base plate to which said arms are connected and a screw threaded through the yoke, said plate having bifurcated corners between which said arms are secured, by means of bolts, said arms having heads adapted to engage the outer surface of said plate to relieve the strain on said bolts.

An arbor press comprising); a yolice, ad iustablc arms pivotally connected thereto, a base having a recess, and bolts connecting said arms to said base, said arms having heads engaging the under side of said base.
