T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EUGENE M. MCDAGUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albion, in the county of Noble and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in NecktieI-Iolders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in neck tie holders.

The object of this invention is to provide a device especially adapted to be located between the folds of a turned down collar and removably engage about the shank of a button so as to hold the tie against creeping below the lower edges of the fold of the collar and at the same time, permit the tie to freely slide between the folds of the collar when adjusting it, prior to tying the same.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a tie holding device formed of a single piece of material bent to provide a button engaging member which is adapted to be arranged about the shank of the button and removably position a. portion of the frame between the folds of a collar, so as to support a tie up in the folds of the collar and permit the tie to freely slide in the folds, prior to the tying of the same.

A still further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character, which will be simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive in construction, and one that can be manufactured and sold at a low cost.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claims hereto appended.

Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a fragment of a neck band of a shirt to which is removably secured the usual type of turned down collar 2, which collar is provided in its inner fold centrally of its ends with the usual buttonhole 3, through which is adapted to extend a transversely arranged button 4;, which button extends through an opening in the shirt band 1, thus detachably connecting the collar thereto.

My improved neck tie holder is adapted to be removably secured to the shank of a button, and positioned between the inner fold and neck band of the shirt, as shown in Fig. 3, and it comprises in its construction, a single length of wire designated in its entirety by the numeral 5, which wire is looped at its medial portion as at 6 to provide the substantially U-shaped member 7, the arms of which are arranged at a spaced distance apart, the terminals of the arms are bent laterally in opposite directions as at 8 and have their outer ends curved inwardly as at 9 and the inwardly curved portions 9 incline inwardly and downwardly as at 10, and the extreme terminals of the portions 10 incline inwardly and clownwardly as at 11 and are twisted together as at 12 and bent upwardly to provide the resilient spaced arms 13, which arms Y are curved outwardly and inwardly as at 14 and their extreme terminals flared outwardly as at 15 to provide guides to facilitate the insertion of the shank of a button between the outwardly directed portions of the resilient arms 13, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

tute a frame and the loop portion 6 of the U-shaped member is adapted to engage the shank of the button directly behind the head and thus prevent a tie which is designated by the numeral 16 from slipping downwardly beyond the lower edges of the folds of the turned down collar.

The device is applied as follows, the collar is first secured to the neck band of a shirt by the button 4c, the holder is grasped by the twistedportion 12, the flared arm portions 15 of the resilient members 13 are inserted between the inner folds 17 and the neck band 1 of the shirt, and the arms 13 are arranged on opposite sides of the shank of the button, the frame comprising the laterally extending portions 8, arms 10 and 11 is inserted between the folds of a collar and the shank of the button arranged between the arms 7 of the U-shaped member and is forced upwardly into and between the folds of the collar until the shank of the button rests in the loop portion 6, thus the device is arranged for use, prior to applying the device, the neck tie is arranged between the folds of the collar, thus it can be seen that the tie may be freely slid between the folds of the collar without any fear of binding and at the same time hold the tie in position up in between the folds of the collar, thus preventing the same from slipping downwardly and creeping below the lower longitudinal edges of the folds of the collar when in use.

Referring more particularly to the modi fied form of the invention shown in Figs. 5 and 6, there is illustrated a holder formed of a single blank of material, such as tin, celluloid or the like and it comprises a fiat body 18, which body is tapered and has its smaller end bifurcated centrally of its ends as at 19 to provide the arms 20, which arms are bent back upon themselves as at 121, curved upwardly and arranged parallel with a portion of the plate 18, it being understood that the arms 20 are bent upwardly intermediate theig ends, thus pro viding the spaced arms 22, which define the button shank receiving opening 23, the body of the plate is ofiset laterally as at 2st intermediate its ends by a substantially horizontal shoulder 25, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described.

The upper edge of the body has substantially inverted V-shaped cut out portions 26, which define spacing arms 27, which are adapted to be embedded between the walls of the usual type of turned down collar.

When applying the modified form of the invention for use, the tie is arranged between the inner and outer folds of the collar, the collar is secured to the neck band by the button 4., the holder is grasped by the portion 21 and the arms 20 are inserted between the inner folds 17 and the neck band 1 of the shirt and engaged on opposite sides of the button shank, thus positioning the body 18 between the inner and outer folds and the tie will rest upon the horizontal shoulder 25 and the button head 28 will extend through the opening 23, thus it can be seen that the device is securely held in position and will permit the tie to freely slide between the folds of the collar and prevent the creeping of the tie downwardly when in use.

What is claimed is:

l. A device of the class described com prising a frame, means carried by the frame for removably securing it to the shank of a button, said frame adapted to be located be tween the folds of a turned down collar to permit a tie to slide freely therebetween, as and for the purpose specified.

2. A neck tie holder comprising a frame, resilient means carried by the frame adapted for detachably engaging with the shank of a. button, positioning and holding the frame between the folds of a turned down collar, said frame adapted to permit a tie to slide freely between the folds of a collar, as and for the purpose specified.

3. A neck tie holder formed of a single piece of resilient material provided with spaced arms bent upwardly at one end of the frame to provide button engaging members, the opposite end of the frame constituting a spacing and holder member, which is adapted to be located between the folds of a collar.

f. A neck tie holder formed of wire comprising a frame, a U-shaped member located within the frame, and the arms of the U-shaped member flared outwardly to pro vide guides to facilitate the application of the arms to the shank of a button.
