Description

June 21, 1932. "G. J. RILEY BOUQUET HOLDER Filed March 14. 1931 a m m w Patented June 21, 1932 GEORGEQJ. RI EY; on nnxrnsrnnx, PENNSYLVANIA BOUQUET HOLDER Application filed March 14, 1931. SerialNo. 522,558.
My invention relates to bouquet holders which are adapted for use in the holding or supporting of a bouquet and the attaching of the same to the corsage portion of a 6 womans dress or'gown.
The general object of the invention is to provide a holder of simplified but novel construction having means which enables the fastening of a bouquet thereto.
m The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts therein as hereinafter described in detail, particularly pointed out in the claims and as illustrated in the drawing wherein I have illustrated a mechanical embodiment of the holder in the form which at present is preferred by me.
In order that the invention may be readily understood and its practical advantages fully appreciated reference should be had to the an accompanying drawin forming a part of this specification and w erein Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of a holder embodying the invention and also showing in dotted lines a portion of a ribbon or other suitable means by which the bouquet may be fastened to the holder;
Fig. 2 is a view in longitudinal section of the holder taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and showing also the stem or handle of a bouquet in section and the fastening means for securing the bouquet to the holder in elevation; and
Fig. 3 is a view in transverse section of the holder and showing in dash lines the stem or handle portion of the bouquet in place thereon.
The construction embodying my invention is shown as consisting of wire bent into a form similar to that which is embodied in certain well known paper clips but it may consist of other material than wire provided that it shall embody means the equivalent of that shown in the drawing to enable the fastening of a bouquet in place thereon.
5 The front or engaging end of the bottom In the drawing I have shown a clip congripping member 1 of the clip projects a distance beyond the front end of the top gripping member 2, as indicated at 3, to facilitatethe engagement of the cliplwith a portion of the corsage of awomans dress or gown. Preferably also the projectingportion 3 is tapered in some such manner as is shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The opposite or rear end of the clip comprises two base end bars f and 5, the former being located to outside of the latter. The side 6 of the top gripping member 2 is connected at one end to an end of the end bar 4 and extends forward in overlying relation to the side 7 of the gripping member 1. The opposite sides of 05 the gripping members 1 and 2 are arranged in reverse relation; that is, the side 7 of the bottom gripping member. 1 is located underneath the adjoining side 8 of the top gripping member 2. The overlying relation of the opposite sides of the gripping members 1 and 2 as described operates to hold the said gripping members in gripping relation to each other. In order to provide means for fastening or securing a bouquet to the holder I have bent inwardly or indented the central portion of the end bar 5, as shown at 10, and of the front bar 11, as shown at 12, thereby providing projections 13 and 14 at the opposite ends of the said bars respectively. The inwardly bent or indented portion 10 of the bar 5 by reason of the presence of the bar 4 provides an opening 15 of rectangular shape,as shown in Fig. 1, through which a ribbon or other fastening means 16 may be extended as shown. Such ribbon or other fastening means also is passed throughthe opening provided between the end portion 3 of the bottom gripping member and the front end bar 11 of the top gripping member. The indented or inwardly bent portions 10 and 12 of the front and rear bars 5 and 11 provide seats within which the ribbon or other fastening means is located. The projections'13 and liprevent lateral displacement of the ribbon. In other words, the said projections retain the ribbon or other fastening means in place upon the holder. In theme of the device the stem or handle 17 of the bouquet is placed in position upon and extending crosswise of the top gripping member 2 of the clip after which the ribbon or other fastening means 16 is drawn about the said stem or handle and about the indented portions 10 and 12 of the bars 5 and 11 and tied against the stem 17, as indicated at 18, with suflicient tightness to hold the bouquet in place upon the holder. This having been done the holder is then clipped to the. garment,- such as a corsage, by inserting a portion thereof into position between the gripping members 1 and 2 in the same manner as sheets of paper are fastened between the-grippingmembers of one type of well known paper clips.
It is not essential that the bouquet be fastened to the clip before the latter is fastened to the garment but if desired the clip may be fastened to the garment, the bouquet placed in position thereon and then fastened thereto by tying the ribbon or other fastening means 16.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letter Patent is: I
1. A bouquet holder comprising a clip having co-operating gripping members and provided with projections at the opposite edges thereof in adjoining relation to its opposite ends for retaining a fastening means in place thereon.
2. A bouquet holder comprising gripping elements held in yielding gripping relation to each other and having cross bars at the opposite ends thereof the central portions of which are indented to provide seats for receiving fastening means for securing a bouquet upon the holder.
3. A bouquet holder consisting of a spring clip having gripping elements arranged in gripping relation to each other, and bars at the opposite ends of said clip having their central portions bent inwardly toward each other, the opposite ends of said bars terminating in outwardly extending projections to form shoulders which are adapted to re.- tain upon the holder a fastening means employed to secure a bouquet thereon.
4:. A bouquet holder consisting of a spring clip formed of wire, the said wire being bent to form bottom and top gripping elements arranged in gripping relation to each other, and front and rear end bars which are arranged in angular relation to each other, one
" bar being located rearwardly of and in adjoining relation to the other, one end of the said rear bar being located on one side of a side bar of the bottom gripping element and the other end thereof being located on one side of a side of the top gripping element, the central portion of the rear end bar beingindented and the central portion of the front end bar of the top gripping member also being indented, the indentations of the said bars forming seats for the reception of a fasten-' name this 12th-day of March, A. D. 1931.
