CORPORATION-01 IGWA.
sLEEP-ING RflBE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID R. JONES, J12, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dubuque, in the county of Dubuque and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleeping- Robes, of which the following is a specifica tion.
lvly invention relates to sleeping robes and is an improvement and addition to the invention set out in Letters Patent granted and issued to John R. Jones, April 26th, 1910 and numbered 956,102.
The object of my invention is to provide a sleeping robe in which the garment is provided with flaps and foot receptacles and r the receptacles are so constructed that they may be readily attached and detached in a novel manner for washing or other purposes.
The following specification will fully explain the manner of construction and mode of operation when taken in connection with the drawings accompanying the same and forming a part hereof in which- Figure 1 is a front view of the robe with the foot receptacles in position and mode of attachment in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of one half of the robe taken from the inside, with one of the foot receptacles attached to the front flap.
Fig. 3 is a back view of a securing member.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of one of the foot receptacles.
Like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in each of the drawings.
eferring to the drawings 1 represents a portion of the body terminating in a rear flap 2 and 4 a portion of the body terminating at the bottom in the front flap 3 the two parts, are sewed together at their edges to within a short distance of the bottom edge of the flaps at 5, and from 5 they are detachably joined by buttons 8 on one of the flaps and buttonholes 6 in the other. To the inner side of the front flap 3, near the bottom, is stitched two securing members 10, one on the right and the other on the left side as shown in Fig. 3, these are sewed to the flap only for a short distance at the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 1917. Serial No. 75,501.
top by stitches l2 and the remainder or lower ends hang loosely and are each provided with buttons 14: on the lower inner side, and which buttons face the inside of the front flap and thus are wholly out of sight, and in such position that they cannot come in contact with the person of the wearer.
The foot receptacle 15 is made in substantially the same form as that shown in said above mentioned patent, except at the top it is provided with a binding 16 or the top may be turned over forming a binding. On the side of the receptacle, through the binding, are buttonholes 18 which correspond in distance apart to that of the buttons 14-.
On the members 10 when the receptacles are in position for use, these buttonholes 18 are engaged by the buttons 1 and removably held in position on the front flap of the robe, with the foot extending below the lower edge of the front flap, leaving the rear flap free and untrammeled by the receptacle and the receptacle pointing in front of the front flap; it will be observed that if the receptacles become soiled that they can be readily removed by simply unbuttoning the receptacles from the members 10 and washing them and returning, by buttoning them on to the members 10.
.l t is manifest that the receptacles may be removably attached to the members in other ways than by buttons and buttonholes and still be within the spirit of my invention.
Having now described my invention what I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, a sleeping robe having a front and back portion united together and each portion provided with a flap at the bottom, securing members attached at their upper ends to the inside of the front flap, buttons on the inside of the securing members, foot receptacles provided with buttonholes near their top through one side adapted to be engaged by the buttons on the securing members.
' 2. In a device of the character described, a sleeping robe formed in two parts and each part provided with a flap at the bottom and sewed together to near the lower end of both parts and the lower ends deshall project below the front flap.
tachabiy united by buttons and buttcnhoies, securing members attached to the inner side of the front flap and provided with buttons and foot receptacles provided with buttonholes adapted to be engaged by the buttons on the members whereby the foot receptacles DAVID B. JONES, JR.
