To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I. (mumps V. GLnoK- :vnn. a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton. in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Griddle-Grea sers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sanitary griddle greasers and the primary object of this invention is to provide a new and improved device of this character which is provided with means for removably securing a pad to the device, in such a manner that the same may be easily and quickly removed and replaced by a new pad when desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple, and durable in construction, in-

expensive to manufacture, and one which will be very efficient in operation. I

, With these and numerous other objects in view my invention consists of the novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts which will be herein referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.

In describing my invention I shall refer to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which the numeral 1 designates a substantially rectangular shaped block which is formed of any desired material,-preferably wood, and has an upright centrally disposed handle 2 projecting from the upper surface of the same. This rectangular shaped block 1 is provided at its opposite ends 3 and 4 with centrally disposed finger notches 5 which are for a purpose to be hereinafter more fully described.

rectangular shaped block 1 is a pad 6 which is formed of any desired material that is adapted to receive the grease for applying the same in a manner common to devices of this character, said pad having overlapping ends 7 and 8 which extend over the ends 3 and i of the block and are positioned adjacent the same on the upper surface of said block.

These overlapping ends 7 and 8 of the pad 6 are removably held in position over the top of the block by means of a pair of U-shape'd spring clamps 9 which are positioned above said ends and have their lnner free ends secured to the upper surface of'said block. These substantially U-shaped spring wire clamps, one of which is shown in Fig. t of the drawings, are slightly narrower than said block and extend from a point intermediate the ends of the same to the adjacent opposite ends 3 and 4: of the block.

The substantially U-shaped spring wire clamps 9 are provided adjacent their free ends 10 with upright alining coils 11 and the sald free ends are provided with laterally downwardly bent pointed extremities 12 which are adapted to be driven in the upper surface of the block approximately on a line extending transversely across the same at apoint midway between its ends. The opposite free ends 10 of the clamps are disposed adjacent one another as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings and the same are adapted to be securely held in position by means of staples 13- that are driven into the upper surface of the block above said adjacent free ends and transversely across the same, so that when in position, the ends of the clamps are securely held by said staples in addition to the grip by their extremities. The staples 13 have their arms let projecting through the said block and the lower ends 15 of the same are bent laterally inwardly and adapted to lie flush with the lower face of the same. This forms a secure attachment for the free ends of the clamps so that the same will not be likely to work loose or pull out under the ordinary strain to which they will be subjected.

The handle 2 on the upper surface of the block may be f any desired size or shape and may be secured thereto in any desired manner, for instance as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, by means of a screw 16 which projects upwardly through the block and has its upper end positioned in the handle. The head of the screw 16 lies flush with the lower surface of the block so that the same will not interfere with the pads that are placed thereover.

In operation, when it is desired to use this device, it is only necessary to take the pad 6, and cover the lower face of the block 1 in such a manner that the opposite ends of the pad will overlap the adjacent upper end portions of said block. These overlapping end portions of the pad will be securely held in position by means of the U- shaped spring clamps 9 which will exert a sufficient pressure thereon to hold the pad firmly in engagement during operation. The U-shaped spring clamps 9, owing to the fact that their free ends are securely held in engagement with the upper surface of the block at a point intermediate the ends of the same, and also by means of the coils 11 thereon, will form a safe and secure clamping means for the ends of the pad. IVhen it is desired to remove this pad, it is only necessary to grasp the clamp and lift the same against the constant downward pressure exerted thereby so that the overlapping ends of the pad may be easily reached. The gripping of the overlapping end of the pad is facilitated by the finger notches 5 in the opposite ends of the block as downward pressure above the same will afford the operator suflicient grippin surface to readily grasp the end of the pa After one end of the pad has been removed, the other end will easily slip from between the clamp and the upper surface of the block upon the era ertion of any outward pull thereon.

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved griddle greaser, the manner of applying the same to use and the operation thereof will be readily understood, and it will be seen that I have provided a simple, durable and ineX- pensive means for carrying out the objects of this invention. The primary object of this device is to provide means positioned above the rectangular shaped block .for removably securing a greasing pad in position. After the used pad has been removed from the holder, a clean pad may be substituted therefor in a manner which will be obvious from the foregoing description.

I claim as my invention:

A device of the class described comprising a substantially rectangular shaped block having an upright handle, a pad extending across the under face of said block and overlying the upper end portions of the same, a pair of U-shaped spring wire clamps overlying the ends of said pad and having the inner free ends of the arms terminating at points substantially midway the length of said block and in transverse alinement, said clamps having the free ends of their arms disposed adjacent each other and bent downwardly to form spurs which project into said block, coils adjacent the free ends of each of said arms, staples positioned in said block over the adjacent ends of the arms and the ends of said staples extending through the block and having said ends bent inwardly and lying flush with the under face of the same, said clamps having their entire lengths snugly contacting the overlapping portions of the pad and a notch in the upper face of said block at each end whereby the clamps may be easily disengaged from the ends of the pad for the removal thereof.
