To all whom it may concern:

citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and tate of California, have invented a new and useful Nurses Cap, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to caps, and is designed more especially for use as a head covering by trained nurses, though it is useful in other relations.

The object of the invention is to provide a cap of this character having the usual neat and trim appearance of the customary nurses cap, and formed of a single piece of fabric, which, by a very simple method of folding, may be converted into a cap.

The cap of the present invention is capable of being maintained in its folded position, by the simple application of a pair of ordinary pins, one on either side, the cap having the added advantage, by reason of its simple, one piece structure, of being easily and rapidly laundried by the nurse herself, when necessary, thus effecting a much desired economy.

A. full and complete understanding of the invention may be obtained from a consideration of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification; it being understood that while the drawing shows a practical form of the invention, the latter is not confined to strict conformity therewith, but may be changed or modified, so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention, as specifically pointed out in the claims appended hereto.

of the nember, and extending away from the same a distance substantially equal to the width of said portion 2.

The opposite side edge 4% of the blank 1 is somewhat longer than the side edge 3, thereby providing inclined end edges 5 and 6, and the said edges 5 and 6 together with the edge 3 and the margins of the extending portion or flap 2 are provided with relatively narrow hems and suitably stitched in the usual manner to prevent the material from raveling, and to present a finished appearance.

The edge 4 of the blank 1 is provided with a deep hem 7 along its entire length, and formed by turning back the material composing the blank 1 a distance slightly more than one-third the width of the blank and suitably stitching the same, thus providing a double thickness along this side of the .Jolank for a purpose hereinafter described.

The blank is adapted to be folded along certain crease lines in order to assume the contour and proportions of the ordinary nurses cap, and to be held, when thus folded, by the application of a pin on either side of the completed cap in a manner to be explained.

The hemmed portion 7 is first turned back upon the body portion 1 along the longitudinal line 8, so that the same will lie in an upright position in surrounding relation to the main portion as clearly shown in Fig. 2.

The blank is then folded in an opposite direction along the longitudinal line 9, which is spaced away from the adjacent edge 3 of the blank 1, thus providing a pair of narrow marginal flaps 10-10, on either side of the portion 2, which is then extended outwardly in right angular relation to the upright body portion 1 and the surrounding hem 7. By then bending the hem to the rear, in parallel relation to the sides of the member 2, along the lines 11 and 12, the flaps 1010 are brought into close relation to the edges of the said member 2, which edges are adapted to be downwardly turned, as indicated at 13-13 in Fig. 2, and the same may be temporarily secured. together by the simple application of an ordinary pin 1% on either side of the extension 2.

It will thus be seen that an attractive nurses cap has been provided having the stiffened hem portion 7 arranged, as a band or rim across the front and along the sides of the cap and that the extension 2 forms the top thereof.

Ihe ends of the hemmed portion 7 will normally lie in somewhat spaced relation to the sides of the cap thus producing the desired effect.

By simply removing the two pins in a manner readily apparent, the cap, being of a one piece structure, may be easily washed and ironed, and may be packed away in numbers occupying small space and are adapted to be set up into shape in a few moments. The cap is of such a simple form that it is susceptible of being so cheaply manufactured as to reduce the cost thereof to a minimum.

What is claimed is 1. A cap comprising a body portion having integral front and side walls, an integral band rising from the bottom of the front and side walls and having its upper edge spaced from the upper edges of the said walls, an integral top member extending rearwardly from the upper edge of the front wall and lying between the side walls, and means for connecting the top member to the side walls.

2. A cap comprising a body portion, having integral front and side walls, an integral upstanding band surrounding the front and sides and in spaced relation thereto, downwardly extending flaps carried by the upper edges of the side walls on the inner sides thereof, and a centrally located integral top portion having its side edges downturned so as to lie against said flaps and be secured thereto.

4. A blank for a cap formed of a single piece of fabric comprising an elongated substantially rectangular body member having a deep hem along one long side thereof and folded back at the hem line onto the body member, so as to form the outer band of the cap, and an outwardly directed centrally located extension at the other long side of the body member to form the top of the cap, said extension being secured to the body member.

5. A blank for a cap comprising an elongated substantially rectangular body memher having a rectangular extension projecting from one side edge, and longitudinal crease lines extending from end to end, one of the crease lines being spaced from one side edge a suflicient distance to provide a band for the cap, while the other crease line is spaced a less distance from the other side edge to leave flaps on each side of the said extension.
