IMPROVEMENT IN DIVIDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,850, dated December 12, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT A. COOK, of Milford, countbY of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dividers, of which the following is a speciiication:
The nature of my invention consists in forming in one leg of a pair of dividers a semi-cylindrical groove, and in combining with the same a screw, clasp, and movable leg.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line x y, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross-section on the line Z Z, Fig. 2.
A and B are the two legs of the dividers, tlie upper joint, the holding-arc H, the screws K and L, and spring S all being made in the usual manner. The leg A is made in section, as shown in Fig. 3-that is, a semi-cylindrical groove extends along the inner part of the leg, into which the movable leg C fits. The leg A is also provided With a slit, a. a, and a pair of ears, n u. The ears n n, together With a part of the leg adjoining, form a clasp for the movable leg C. D is a thumbscrew, which serves to draw the ears n n together, and thus to hold the leg C firmly in place. As the leg C fits closely in the cylindrical groove in the inner part of the leg A, and is also held by the ears ofthe clasp n a, it is as rigid as though a part of the leg itself.
I claimv as my invention- In a pair of dividers, the combination of the cylindrical extension C and the leg A, provided with a semi-cylindrical groove upon its inner side, with the slit a a, with the ears n n, and With the thumb-screw D, all constructed, arranged, and operated substantially as described and shown.
