E. FRANKE.
PEDAL ATTACHMENT.

Application filed March 28, 191
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, EMIL FRANKE, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Long means thereon for detachable connection with the pedal, the said means serving to expose the upper surface of the yieldable body so as to permit the foot of the operator to be brought in direct contact therewith.
In view of the many different shapes of pedals, I have devised a peculiar and novel form of clamp which is used in connection with the pad and adapted to be adjusted therefrom whereby to accommodate itself, respectively to all sides of the pedal, irrespective of the shape thereof.
I aim also to employ a pedal pad including a clamp consisting of adjustable elements having normal pedal clamping or gripping portions and terminal actuating bendable portions which may be brought into clamping engagement with the pedal after the normal portions have been brought into engagement therewith.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangements of parts which will hereinafter be fully and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, has been illustrated, a single and preferred form of the invention, 'it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claim may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved pedal pad showing it ap` plied to one type of pedal. Fig. 2 is a simi- Speccaton of Letters Patent.

lar view showing the pedal pad applied to another type of pedal. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamp and associated detachable elements. F ig. i is a sectional view g taken on the line lf-1i of Fig. 1.
The pad consists of a main body plate l, having a superposed cushioning block or yieldable body 2, mounted thereon and confined thereagainst by lugs 3, which are bent up from the marginal edges of the plate and lugs 4 which are also bent up from the marginal edges of the plate and the last mentioned lugs lare preferably terminally bent as at 5, and then extended into radial recesses 6, in the cushioning body. This last mentioned arrangement provides means whereby the cushioning body may be readily removed from the plate when worn and a new body substituted therefor at a minimum cost. In addition thereto the angular eX- tensions 5, co-act with the side walls of the recesses 6, so as to hold the cushioning body against turning upon the plate l, when pressure of the foot is applied to the body. rlhe upper surface of the body be ribbed, or otherwise suitably formed' so as to maximize the gripping tendency of the body against the foot when depressing the pedal. As a further means of confining the body to the platel, spurs 7, are upstruck from the plate within the marginal edges thereof and said spurs are embedded in the pedal 2 or made to suitably penetrate a part of the body as shown.
In order that the pad may be made to accommodate itself to a pedal of most any well known shape, I employ a clamp which consists of identical arcuate gripping elements 8, which are preferably arranged in sets of two. These elements are formed of metal and each is provided with a normal hook shaped clamping portions 9, and normal plate combined actuating and gripping or clamping portions l0. The elements are so arranged upon the plate l, that the portions 10, of the respective elements are disposed in relatively close proximity in pairs, respectively at diametrically opposite points to the body or block 2. This arrangement is preferred for the sake of convenience in the operation of moving the several normal clamping portions 10, into engagement with the adjacent sides of the pad as will be fully understood. rlhe said normal plate actuating portions l0, are bendable and after said portions have served the purpose of Y means to permit the normal portions 9, to be i to very nicely accommodate themselves to the next adjacentsides of the pedal, irrespective of the shape of the pedal, after 1 which the normal plate terminals of these elements may be made to clamp against theY remaining sides of the pedal. The points of Y gripping VContact of the clamping elements 2e Vare equi-distantlyarranged upon theplatrg` 1, soV as to provide uniformity in thegripping action of the device lagainst thevpedal. Y Y
