Application filed April 21, 1915. Serial-No. 22,826.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER HAWK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Household-Calendars, of which the following is a specification.
The present inventionrelates to household calendars designed particularly for use as a household ledger or expense account.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of acalendar device by means of which the daily and monthly expenses of a household, or other organization, may be preserved with facility, reliability and accuracy in connection with the calendar, as will hereinafter plained.
The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts of a calendar apparatus or cabinet by means of which the date or day tags of the calendar may be attached thereto and other desirable functions performed as will be described.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention, and a modification thereof, showing the best modes I have so far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.
Figure l is a front elevation of the cabinet of the calendar showing several date tags attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the cabinet of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a rear view of one of the date tags. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of a cabinet with a modified form of calendar. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of Fig. 1.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention I employ a cabinet 1 of suitable size and shape, and made up of proper material, and divide the cabinet into a number of compartments as 2, 2. In the drawings I have illustrated forty nine of these compartments or pigeon holes, formed by two series of partitions as 3 and 41, the former extending from top to bottom of the cabinet and the latter extending horizontally from side to side of the cabinet.
The front wall of the cabinet, as 5, is divided by a series of parallel horizontal slots be pointed out and ex-' ii which extend across the front of the cablnet ust below the horizontal partitions so that the slots open into the top of each of the compartments as shown in the drawings.
In some instances the front wall is omitted at the lower end of the cabinet thus providing open front compartments 2 in which may be stored or stacked blanks or blank cards as 7 having printed thereon proper matter for the entry of daily expense accounts. These daily expense cards are of suitable size to be passed through the slots 6 so that they will fall into one of the compartments 2, and thus be preserved for future use at the proper time.
Each cabinet is equipped with a series of date tags, thirty one in number, as indicated by the numeral 8, and the tags are of course numbered from 1 to 81 to designate the days of the month. These tags are preferably of metal, such as tin, and the number may be printed or otherwise affixed thereon. Each tag is provided with a bent hook portion 9, projecting at its rear as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, and this hook is adapted to be suspended over the edge of the wall of the slots in the front plate of the cabinet. Thus the date tags designated 1, 6, 7, 8, etc., have been suspended by their hooks over the edges of the walls of the slots, and it will be understood of course, that at the end of the month the cabinet will be equipped with all of the tags indicating the successive days of the month.
Tn Figs. 4 and 5 which show the modified form of the invention, the tags have been dispensed with and a date sheet 10 is employed which is supported on two rollers as 11 and 12. The sheet is slotted at 11 and these slots alined with the slots in the front wall of the cabinet so that the daily expense cards may be passed through the alined slots and be slipped into their proper compartments.
At the top of the front wall of the cabinet of Figs. 1 and 2 a month plate as 13 is supported between two retaining loops l5 and 16, and in Figs. 2 and 5 a monthly form card 17 is clearly illustrated in a pocket formed by the flanges 18 at the rear of the cabinet, a tab 19 being provided on the top of the card by means of which the form card may be withdrawn from'its pocket when desired.
For convenience in identifying the tags each tag has its date of the month printed on the hook at its rear as shown in Fig. 3 where the tag indicating the first day of the month is illustrated.
In use the cabinet is located in a convenient and desirable place, either hung up on a support, or supported upon a proper base, but in any event the cabinet is displayed in a convenient and accessible position.
The date tags may be attached to the cabinet, each successive day, or they may be attached to the cabinet the first day of the month if desired. The tags are suspended by their hooks from the slots in the front wall of the cabinet as before described.
In use the expenses of the day are entered upon one of the cards 7 and the card is passed through one of the slots 6 to its proper compartment as shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the card of course being placed in the compartment indicated by the date tag hung over the compartment. One card may suffice for all the expenses of the day, or in some cases a card may be used for each separate expense of the day and thus an item be placed upon each card 7. But it will be understood of course that the expense of Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the each separate day will be preserved in its separated compartment. At the end of the month the daily expense cards may be gathered from the open rear ends of the numerous compartments and then the account on the monthly card may be set down from the daily cards, after which the cabinet may be prepared and arranged for the succeeding month, and the proceeding repeated.
What I claim is In a household calendar the combination with a cabinet of a series of horizontal partitions extending from side to side and a series of intersecting vertical partitions extending from top to bottom and forming separated compartments open at the rear, a front wall common to all the compartments and formed with a series of longitudinal slots communicating with the upper portions of said compartments, a removable member closing the open rear ends of the compartments, and date tags, each having a hook and separately attachable to said slotted front Wall in front of a compartment.
In testimony whereof I my signature.
WALTER HAWK.
