Description

E. S. MOWRY.
FLA G BRACKET.
' APPLICATION FILED MAR. 17, 19]].
Patented Feb. 18, 1919.
EDWARD S. MOWRY, OF MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR T0 WILCOX, CRITTEN- DEN AND COMPANY, INCORPORATED, BATION OF CONNECTICUT.
OF MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPO- FLAG-BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1919.
Application filed March 17, 1917. Serial No. 155,521.
S. MOWRY,
. cleat thereon.
To these, and other ends, my invention consists in the flag bracket, having certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference designate like parts in the several figures;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bracket;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view thereof, upon line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view with the parts in section, taken upon line 33 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view with the parts in section, taken upon line H of Fig. 2.
Heretofore brackets of this type have been provided with a cleat of such structure as to be extremely fragile and liable to be broken off, either in shipment or by careless handling.
I have obviated these, and other objec- Gopies of this patent malyhe obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Washington, D. C.
tions, by constructing the pole arm 1 of the bracket with an integral lug 2 upon the rib 5, of such shape and structure as to be extremely rugged and broken only with the greatest difiiculty, and fixed therein is a cleat 3 of wrought metal, which is secured by being placed in the mold and embedded in the molten metal.
A depression 4 is formed in each side of the cleat between its ends, and flattened as shown in Fig. 2, whereby endwise and rotary movement of the cleatwithin the lug is prevented.
In this form of structure a cleat is produced that will withstand heavy strains and equally heavy shocks and blows by care less handling, and is both cheap and economical to construct.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a flag bracket; a body member; a lug cast integral therewith, and an inserted piece partially embedded in said lug so as to form a cleat.
2. In a device of the class described; a body member; a lug cast integral therewith; and an inserted piece having a restricted portion embedded in said lug forming a cleat.
3. In a device of the class described; a body member; a lug cast integral therewith; and an inserted piece or cleat portion tapering toward both ends and having its greatest diameter at the middle portion thereof, which portion is embedded in said lugs.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto aflixed my signature.
EDWARD S. 'MOWRY.
