ALBERT E. HOLADAY, 0F NAUGATUCK, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN WRINGER COMPANY, OF WOONSOCKET, RHODE ISLAND, A CORPORATION OF RHODE I-SLAN D.
CLOTHES-WRINGER CLAMP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT E. HoLADAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Naugatuck, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Wringer Clamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes wringer clamps, and more particular to means for mounting the same in the wringer frame, the object being to provide a clamp which can be readily attached or removed from the frame.
Another object of my invention is to provide the side bars of the wringer frame with vertical bores in alinement with the slots thereof, in which are seated the pintles for the clamping arms which are secured in position therein by the transverse bolts employed for securing the guide-board of the wringer to the frame.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a side elevation of a portion of the wringer frame, showing the application of my improved clamp thereto, for securing the same on the tub.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation. partly in section, showing the pintle for the clamp arm, and the bolt for securing the same, and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section through one of the side bars of the wringer frame showing the manner of fastening the pintle in position therein.
In the drawing I have shown my improved clamp attached to a wringer frame of the ordinary construction, having the usual slotted side bars 1, the opposing walls of which are grooved to receive the bearings of the pressure rolls. The lower portions of the side bars 1, are provided with notches 2, on their inner faces to receive the arms 3, of the clamps which are provided with the usual screw operated clamping members 4, and as herein shown these arms are curved as shown at 5. The notches 2 extend beyond the longitudinal center of the side bars in order to allow the arms to be mounted in the center of the side bars so that they Specification of Letters Patent.

can swing inwardly between the side bars of the wringer frame for shipping purposes.
A vertical bore 6, is formed in the lower portion of each side bar, the upper end of which communicates with the lower end of the slot thereof, and is adapted to be closed by bearing supports 7, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. This bore communicates with the notches 2, and is adapted to receive a pintle S, on which the hub portion 3 of the arm 3, is pivotally mounted.
The pintle 8 terminates at the intersection of a transverse bore 9, formed in the side bar, through which is adapted to extend a clamping bolt 10, for holding the guide board 11, in position on the wringer frame, said bolt engaging the end of the pintle for holding the pintle within the bore as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
From the above it will be seen that I have provided a clothes wringer clamp which is pivotally mounted on a pintle arranged within a bore formed centrally in the side bar and secured therein by a transverse bolt, which is employed for holding the guide board on the wringer frame.
The bearing support 7, forms a closure for the opened end of the pintle receiving bore, so as to prevent water from the pressure rolls collecting therein and when it is desired to remove the pintle so as to detach the clamp, the rolls are removed from the frame, and the bolts 10, withdrawn and by inverting the frame, the pintles will drop out. In inserting the pintles, the hubs of the arms are placed in the notches and the pintles dropped in the bores so as to pass through the hub of the arms, and by replacing the pressure rolls and pressure means and the guide board retaining bolts, the clamps are attached to the wringer frame, so as to withstand the strain in clamping the frame to the tub.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided novel means for attaching the clothes wringer clamps to the frame in such a manner that they can be readily placed in position or removed therefrom in assembling the wringer.
What I claim is:
1. A clothes wringer comprising a frame having side bars provided with vertical bores, said side bars having notches intersecting said bores, pintles mounted in said bores, arms carrying clamps mounted on said pintles Within said notches, and bolts for securing said pintles Within said bores.
2. A clothes Wringer comprising a frame having slotted side bars, a vertical bore formed in each of said side bars communicating With the slot thereof, said side bars being provided With notches intersecting said bores, a bearing mounted in the slot of said side bars for closing said bore, a pintle arranged Within said bore, and an arm carrying a clamp mounted upon said pintle Within said notch.
8. A clothes Wringer comprising a frame having slotted side bars connected by a guide board, said side bars being provided With vertical bores communicating With the slots thereof said side bars having notches communicating With said bore, a pintle arranged in the bore of the side bar, an arm carrying a clamp mounted on said pintle Within said notch, and a bolt extending transversely through said side bar for securing said guide board thereto, and the pintle Within said bore.
4L. A clothes Wringer comprising a frame composed of side bars having vertical bores intersected by horizontal bores said side bars being provided With notches intersecting the vertical bores, pintles mounted in the vertical bores, arms carrying clamps mounted on said pintles Within said notches.
6. A clothes Wringer having a frame provided with notched side bars connected together by a guide board,-said side bars hav ing vertical bores communicating Withsaid notches, pintles arranged Within said bores, arms carrying clamps mounted on said pintles Within said notches, andbolts for securing the guide board tothe side bar ar ranged in alinement With said pintle for holding said pintle Withinthe side bars.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the-presence of tWo Witnesses.
ALBERT E. HOLADAY.
