B. E. MORELAND.
CALENDAR BANK. APPLICATION FILED NOV-9 19174 LQSLQQQB Patented Oct. 15, 1918.
BERTRAM E. MORELAND, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE MORELAND ADVERTISING COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
CALENDAR-BANK.
Patented Oct. 15,1918.
Application filed. November 9, 1917. Serial No. 201,026.
Banks, of which the following is a specifica-- tion. a
My invention pertains to a savings bank in the form of a calendar with a coin-receiving pocket associated with each date whereby as the coins are placed within the calendar, day by day,'the numeral designating the date also serves to indicate the total amount saved.
As it is intended that my improved calendar shall be supplied monthly to the public and preferabl through the mail, it is highly desirable to orm the same in two sections which enables it to he stood in an upright position so that it will constantly be before the attention of the user.
A further advantage in formingthe device in two sections is that it may be folded for transmission through the mails or when carrying the same upon the person, and when so'folded the coins are held more securely in position.
In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a front view of my improved calendar;
.Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device in an upright position.
Referring now more particularly ,to the drawing, in the preferred form my construction comprises a back piece 4 that may be made of card-board or any other suitable material and which is centrally sc ored (indicated by the numeral 5), whereby two sections 6 and 7 are formed. Secured to the back-piece 4 is a front piece 8 referably of the same size as the back piece ut of lighter stock of material which will permit of it being drawn-by suitable dies to form coin-receiving pockets 9. These coin receiving pockets may be of an herein shown of su cient diameter to receive a ten cent coin, there beingga slot opening 10 cut in the embossed poc ets through which the coin is inserted and when the .coin 11 is in the position shown in Fig. 2, it is so held in the pocket by friction, as well as the overlying marginal edge 12, that accidental desirable size but are- 7 displacement of the coin is effectively pre- .vented. In assembling the structure glue is applied to the marginal edges of the front piece 8 as well as between the pockets as indicated'at 13 which prevents the coin from slipping from one pocket to another.
My improved calendar is preferably made for each month of the year, to insert acoin each day so that byassociating the numerical day of the month with each pocket the amount saved may be readily calculated; for instance in a dime calendar the eighteenth day represents a saving of $1.80. By bending the back-piece along the scored line 5 the calendar assumes the form shown in Fig. 3, whereby it will stand without further support in any convenient place and as the coins are added to the calendar the increase in weight prevents it from being easily upset.
Havingnow described my invention and its uses, I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a combined calendar and bank composed of substantially fiat light material scored vertically to be folded for insertion into a pocket, and to open into V-formation to stand upright when in use, the opposite members of the device being formed with upwardly device earing appropriate indicating matter constituting a calendar, andeach pocket being designated to represent a part of said calendar, and also to designate the total of the inserted coins, the openings of the coin pockets being formed to prevent dropping of the coins from the pockets in any position of the device.
2. As a new articleof manufacture, a combined calendar and bank composed of substantially fiat light material capable of being carried in the pocket, said material being formed with coin receiving pockets having inlet openings bordering ortions constituting the fronts of the poo ets, and appropriately designated matter constituting a calendar on the face of the device, the individual portions of the calendar being devoted to an individual pocket and placed on the face portions of the pockets so that the insertion of the coins will not obscure the same whereby the individual portions of the the object being 3. A combined calendar and coin holder comprising a backing member to constitute the backs of coin pockets, a front member having individually raised portions forming, with thebacking member, coin pockets therebetween, said raised portions being approximately the size of the coins to be in-' serted thereinto, and the forward raised front Walls of-the pockets being formed in their upper portions with slots for the reception of the coins and through which the menace the body of the front member of the device and beingimmediately associated with the j coin slots.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my 20 hand this lst day of November, A. D. 1917. v v BERTRAM E, MORELAND.
