BOTTLE. 1
- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 1918.
' Application filed larch 10, 191e, Serial No. 83,364. Renewed July 16, 1918. Serial No. 245,238.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
' Be it known that 'I, SIDNEY A.FOUCHE, a
of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of whichthe following isa specification.
My invention relates to bottles and contemplates an attachment therefor in the na ture'o'f a sanitary measuring cup or glass.
An object of the invention is to so arrange the associated receptacle and bottle that the panyingdrawings, described in the follow-.
former may form not only a seal against unauthorized access to the latter but as a positive locking means whereby the bottle stopper is held in place.
I further contemplate a construction and arrangement of parts whereby the trouble and inconvenience incident to dispensation of a predetermined quantity of liquid (more particularly medicine) may be obtained by accuratelygraduating the receptacle or glass.
a "A still further" object of the invention is to provide an improved means for positively yet removably or detachably fastening the measuring cup or glass over the neck end of the bottle. I
The above and additional objects are aceomplished by such means as are illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the accoming specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claim which is appended hereto and forms a part of the applica tion.
In describing. my invention in detail referenee will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which F igurel is an elevation of my'improved combined bottle and glass.
Fig. 2 is a detailed longitudinal sectional view partly broken away.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view, and
Fig. 4 is an elevation of a modification.
Referring now to the drawings by numera'ls, 1 designatesa bottle equipped with a neck 2 of ordinary construction. An annular horizontally flat shoulder 3 is formed upon the exterior of the bottle adjacent the bottle neck 2, said shoulder providing an abutment for the measuring cup or glass re ferred to hereinbefore. The bottle 1 and the glam or receptacle 4 are preferably of identical configuration in cross section, the latter, the glass 4, When mounted to rest upon. the shoulder 3, in reality forming a continuatlon of the bottle to thus present to all outward appearances a part thereof. By such an arrangement it is evident that the annoyance or inconvenience incident to wrapping bottles of ordinary construction is obviated In that a bottle equipped with my improved detachable glass or receptacle, is as above specified, of substantially the same configuration throughout.
'flhe means utilized to releasably fasten said receptacle to thebottle comprises or rather consists of a gum strip or band 5 arranged to encircle the bottle at that particular point where said bottle and said glass or receptacle positively engage. The depth reason of its proximity thereto, provide a means whereby said stopper is positively rendered inaccessible and incapable of accidental extraction or displacement.
.As an additional factor in holding the .container 4 upon the bottle, I provide a gasket 8 (preferably rubber). Said gasket 8 is arranged at the base of the enlarged portion of the bottle neck whereby to rest upon the shoulder 3 and accordingly snugly engage with the inside of the measuring cup surface.
If desired, a label containing directions, advertising matter, etc., may be fastened upon the bottom of the glass or receptacle 4 (the top of'the combined device), diametrically opposed strips 6 being utilized to e11- gage with and fasten the label thereon.
In practice, it is to be understood that the cup or receptacle is to be provided with graduation marks 7 arranged to indicate varying quantities, for instance, when used in connection with a medicine bottle, a teaspoonful, tablespoonful, etc.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be noted that a bottle equipped with my improved receptacle may be manufactured and marketed at a nominal cost; said receptacle,
ciated measuring receptacle 4; and thus as before the seal 5 i broken, or thereafterif. arranged over the neck 2 of the bottle, Will indicate to the user of'the contained liquid that such liquid (if. medicine). should be vtaken internally, tles containing it being evident that botternally would not require or need an assoaprotective device, the sealed cup or receptacle will preclude fraudulent access to the contents of the bottle and indicate to that the form of my invention illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description,
izing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device Will necessarily 'vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various -minor changes in details of con-' struction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, When required,
Without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention, as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus fully described myinvention,
medicine to be applied ex-- rim of the glass,
of the bottle adjacent as the preferred embodiment, .IS the most efiicient and practical; yet real:
receptacle,
. In combination, a bottle having an annul'ar shoulder formed at the juncture of the body portion and neck thereof, a receptacle adapted" to be inverted and placed over the, a
bottle neck with the rim of the receptacle adapted for engagement with the shoulder, a rubber gasket on said shoulder for interposition between the shoulder and the the exterior of the bottle and receptacle forming a continuous surface, a relatively broad band of rubber enle and designed, to
circled I about the bot overlap the -rim of the glass and the portion thereto, said band in conJunction with .the gasket forming a seal against the entrance of moisture into the and means extending 'trans-- versely of the band and engaging the bottle I and receptacle to secure the receptacle thereto.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 7 in presence of tvvo witnesses.
