To aZZ w from it may concern Be it known that I, HAROLD L. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holt, in the county of Ingham and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and,

useful Improvements in Holders for Cleaning Blackboard-Erasers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a clamping or supporting frame for holding black board erasers while being cleaned.

The primary object of the invention is to provide means for holding black board erasers in a convenient position whereby the same may be readily and thoroughly cleaned by a few strokes of a broom, thus eliminating the annoyance and inconvenience of the old method of knocking an eraser against a wall, or knocking and rubbing one eraser against another.

Another object is to provide a clamping frame adapted to be placed on the ground, said frame comprising a base and a plurality of cooperating eraser clamping members arranged on said base and adapted to be held in an operative position by pressure of the foot thus leaving the hands of the user free to wield a broom or other cleaning implements.

A further object of the invention is to provide a clamping frame of the character mentioned, which is capable of holding a plurality of black board erasers in a convenient position to be cleaned, and is of such simple and compact construction as to provide an efficient and inexpensive article of manufacture.

The above and other objects and advantages of this invention will be in part described and in part understood from the following description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawings and in which,

Referring to the drawings wherein my invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment, the numeral 1 is used to designate a support or base which may be made of any suitable material and is preferably of an oblong configuration. Secured to the base 1 in any suitable manner and extending entirely across the same are a plurality of bars 2 which are spaced apart as shown.

Slidably arranged on the base 1 and positioned opposite to each of the bars 2 is a sliding bar 8. Ihese bars 3 extend parallel with the bars 2 and are connected together in spaced relation by means of the strap irons ah'thus forming a sliding frame. Secured to the opposing surfaces of the bars 2 and 3 are the supporting strips 5 which are adapted when the bars have been moved into clamping position, to support an eraser between the top edges of the bars whereby the chalk covered pad of the eraser will be projected above the top edges of the bars in an accessible position for cleanin As indicated at 6, a strip of felt or other soft material is secured to each of the bars above the supporting strips 5 and is adapted to contact with the sides of the eraser handle when the same is clamped between the bars 2 and 3. Secured to the outermost of the stationary bars 2 is an operating lever 7 consisting of a strip of iron having its opposite ends bent at right angles and pivotally secured to the said bar as indicated at 8. To connect the sliding ha s 3 with the operating lever 7 I provide a pair of links 9 which have one of their ends connected to the strap irons 4 and the other ends connected to the angled ends of the lever 7 atan intermediate point thereon. To prevent vertical movement of the bars 3 with respect to the bars 2 I provide each of the strap irons 4 withranelongated slot 10, in which a pin 11 formed on each end of one of the stationary bars 2 is adapted to operate.

In using, the parts of the clamp or supporting frame are first positioned as shown in Fig. 2 with the sliding bars 3 in an inoperative position. The erasers to be cleaned are placed between the felt strips 6 and are adapted to rest on the supporting strips 5. The lever 7 is then depressed and through the medium of the links 9 and strap irons 4, will cause the simultaneous movement of all the bars 3 toward the stationary bars 2, thus securely clamping the erasers in a convenient position between the upper edges of said bars whereby the same may be cleaned by a few strokes of a broom or the like.

In the foregoing, I have described a preferred embodiment, but I wish it to be understood that my invention is susceptible to various changes in the construction, proportion and arrangement of the several parts, and I reserve the right to make such changes providing the same come within the scope of oi sliding ba the invention Without departing from the spirit thereof.

I claim:

1. A device oi the character described, including base, a plurality oi stationary bars secured to said base, a plurality of sliding bars arranged on said base and cooperating with said stationary bars, means for connecting said sliding bars, and means for moving said sliding bars into and out of operative position.

2. A device of the character described, including base, a plurality of stationary bars secured to said base, a plurality of sliding bars arranged on said base and cooperating with said stationary bars, supporting strips secured to said stationary and sliding bars, cushioning strips secured above said supporting strips, and means for moving said sliding bars with respect to said stationary bars.

3. A device of the character described, including a base, a plurality oi spaced bars tired to said base, a plurality of sliding bars arranged on said base in a position to cooperate yvith said fined bars, supporting strips ,iforined on all of said bars cushioning stri s secured above said supporting strips, means for connecting said sliding bars, a lever pivoted to one of said stationary bars, and a pair of links each having one end thereof connected to said connecting means and the opposite end thereof connected to said lever.

A device described, including a base, a plurality of stationary bars secured to said base in spaced relation, a plurality arranged on said base in cooperative relation nith said stationary bars, strap irons secured to opposite ends of said sliding bars, and having slots formed therein, pins formed on one of said stationary bars and adapted to operate in said slots, an operating" lever pivot-ally secured to the five cents outermost of said stationary bars, means for connecting said lever to said strap irons, and eraser suinortin means formed on said sta tionary and sliding bars.

5. A device of the character described in eluding a base, a plurality of stationary bars secured to said base, a plurality oisliding be arranged on said base and cooperating with the stationary bars, means for connecting said sliding bars, means for moving said sliding bars into and out of operative position and means for operati" avith the connesting means to prevent vertical movement of the slidingbars in relation to the stationbars.

6. A device of the character described including a base, a plurality of stationary bars secured to the base, a plurality of sliding bars arranged on said'base and cooperating 'vvith the stationary bars, means for connecting said sliding bars. means for moving said sliding bars into and out of open ative position, and an eraser supporting means carried by said stationary and sliding bars.
