Description

.. rnnnnnrc n. IBE iDERL oF esieiaamismw siteivoit To srisEIi ronnnnrns, or cnitqaeo, rumors,aconronnrro OF NEW i L'Hnl': i
useful Improvements in Truck-Pedestals, of p which the following is a specification.
This invention relate to car truck pedestals, and has particular reference to novel uniting means for the lower ends of the pedestal jaws, and is an improvement upon the arrangement disclosed in the Hedgcock Patent No. 1,157,867, granted October 26, 1915.
tween the jaws is closed by a tie strap and also a bar, the tie strap resting upon the bar and being located between the and portions of the jaws, dowel pin formed on the bar extending upwardly through openformed in the jaw members. Ithas been found that the tie strap vibrates considerably on the bar or hinder, thereby causing the pins to wear excessively. The assemblin of the parts of the arrangement disclose in the mentioned patent also may be improved.
The invention is illustrated on the ac-" companying sheet of drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partsbeing in section of a vention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken in the;
planes of line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and,
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side elevation of the pedestal. i
i The various novel features of my invention will be apparent from the following description and drawings, and will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The pedestal includes an upper horizon tally arranged member 10having depend ing therefrom oppositely arrangedjaws 11 and 12 provided With a lining 13. The
lower ends of the jaws are united, or the opening between the jaws is closed by a binder or bar 14: and a tie strap 15. The tie strap is secured to the lower ends of the jaws 11 and 12 between oppositely arranged depending projections 16 and a 17 on each jaw; bolts 18 passing through registering j be noted also that ings in the tie strap and into openings pedestal embodying my in tions of the invention herein li tens? ass- 13, 5,404.
openings in the jaws l1 and 12 and in the tie strap 15. Nuts 19 are applied to the bolts to rigidly hold the tie straps in contact with the jaws. The binder. or bar 14: has arranged on opposite ends thereof recessed portions forming ears 20 provided with openings 21 which register with openings 22 formed in the jaw projections 16, 17, and which receive removable pins 23 for securing the hinder or barl to the jaws 11, 12. It will be noted that thetie strap 15 and the bar 14L are secured to the jaws 11 and 12 independently of each other j j i and that the tie strap is located over and out i In the patent referred to the opening bep of engagement with the barlet. Any vibrations' which may be set up in the tie strap will in no wise effect the bar 14 or its connections with the jaws 11 and 12. It will the tie strap is first secured to the jaws, and then the bar 14: is
secured thereto with the ears 20 at the ends of the bar 14, straddling the nuts 19 to lock thesame against movement. It is apparent therefore that there is no possibility for the tie strap becoming accidentally loosened from the jaws. Furthermore, the pins 23 are locked in their operative positions by conveniently located cotter pins 24: which pass through apertured laterally extending portions 25 and 26 formed on p and 12. It will be noted that the cotter.
the jaws 11 pins 24: do not pass through pins 23, but are arranged "adjacent the. heads of the pins 23 to prevent accidental removal thereof.
It is apparent that there may be modificaparticularly shown and described, and it is my intention to cover all suchmodifications "which do not involve a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the 7 following claims.
Iclann:
1. A car truck pedestal including associated jaws with spaced projections, a tie strap and a bar mounted between said projections serving to close the opening between the jaws, said tie strap and bar being secured to said fjawsindependently of each other.
2. A car truck pedestal including asso tie strap to the jaws, and a bar extending between and secured to said jaws-forming securing means to prevent accidental move- 21, lockfor'thejtie'strzipsecui'ing m eafis; fileiit of thelatter. 10
