CLOSURE OB. DOOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented I une ill, tgt@ Application filed December 4, 1917. Serial No. 205,399.
To all fwlwm t may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES HowDEN HnME, a subject of the King of the United K1ngdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and re-l siding at Glasgow, Scotland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Closures or Doors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved closure or door such for example as a smoke box door, and has for its primary object to provide a construction which insures a tight tting of the door at the margin of the seating surface, more particularly adjacent to that edge at which the hinge is located, whether the door be hinged at either of the sides or at the top or bottom.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is an elevation showing a double-leaf door according to the invention; Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views in elevation and sectional plan showing the adaptation of the invention to a single-leaf hinged door.
The same reference characters denote similar parts in the several views.
As shown, extending longitudinally of the hinged edge of the door leaf or each door leaf l of a door is or are one or more eccentrics 2 bearing on the face of the door leaf at or near the line of abutment with the stile plate4 3, and formed with pintles t eccentric to the bearing surface and tting stationary sockets 5 secured to the stile or other fixed plate.
The said eccentric or each eccentric is formed with an integral lateral projection or projections 6 adapted to be impacted by a hammer when the door is closed so as by Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the angular movement of the eccentric to close the door tightly; or the eccentric may be moved angularly by means of a key, lever or other instrument.
In the construction shown in Fig. l the door leaves l are arranged one on each side of a common stile plate to which the socket forming members 5 are disconnectibly se cured as for example by means of bolts.
What I claim is 1. In combination with a door hinged along one edge, stationary sockets, and an angularly movable eccentric extending along and bearing against the hinged edge of the door, said eccentric being formed with pintles closely fitting said sockets.
2. In combination with sockets, and an eccentric extending along and bearing against one edge of said door, said eccentric being formed with pintles closel fitting said sockets and with an integralY lateral projection by which it may be turned.
3. The combination of a door, sentin a seating face to be engaged by the door a jacent to one edge thereof, said plate having sockets adjacent to said edge and an eccentric formed with pintles itting said sockets, said eccentric being angularly movble to press the door against said seating In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES HOWDEN HUME.
