specification of Letters retest.

Application filed July 19, me. Serial no. toner.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUBBARD F. Home, a citizen of the United. States, residing at Troy, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fold-Collars, of whichthe following is a specification.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar arts in the several figures therein.
This invention relates to a ty e of foldolded-over top retreat obliquely from the neighboring edgej-of the band forming a more or less flaring opening between the ends of the top when the ends of the collar are fastened together as in use.
In the manufacture of such fold-collars, it has been customary to extend the end-ed es of the corners of the tops, where inserted etween the plies of the band, in the same general direction or line as the edges of the exposed end-portions of the top adjacent to the edge of the band.
The inserted corner portions of the top are thus located between the band-plies at a point where the bandis exposed to view in use through the opening between the divergent ends of the top, making the edge of the projecting end-portions of the band unduly thick and stifi, and forming an unsightly variation in the surface of the band along the outline of the inserted corner of the top.
The principal object of the present invention is to provides. better fitting collar of the type referred to, aswell as to improve the appearance of the collar.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view of a fold-collar embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of an, endortion of the collar with the top opened out at and the uppermost band-ply broken away to expose the inserted corner-portion of the to Ref to the drawings wherein t e invention is shown in preferred form, 1 is the band of the collar, and 2 is the top having an edge-portion, 3, inserted between the band-plies in the usual manner.
The exposed end-portions of the top revhand and a folded-over top inserted treat obliquely or divergently from the neighboring edge of the band as at 4, forming a more or less flaring opening as shown in Fig. 1.
In carrying out my invention I make each end of the top adjacent to the band in the form of an angle as shown at 5, which angle is bisected by the neighboring edge, 6, of the band, causing the end-edge, 7, of the inserted corner of the top to retreat obliquely inwardly between the band-plies to substantially the same, or a slightly greater, degree than the edge, 4, of the exposed endportion of the top retreats obliquely inlwaarrcllly from the neighboring edge of the I use the term inwardly with reference to the neighboring end of the collar.
By forming the inserted corner of the top with the obliquely retreating end-edge, 7, as described, when the top is folded u on the band, the portion of the hand wit in which said inserted corner is located, is covered and concealed from view by the foldedover top, and the longer portion of theband lying outwardly beyond the point of junction of the exposed end of the top with the neighboring edge of the band is not reinforced o r thickened by the inserted comerportion of the top.
The mdge-portions of the band immediately adjacent on the'outer side to the endportions of the top are thus left of normal thickness and permit the meeting corners at the folded over top to be drawn into closefitting relationship, which adds to the attractive appearance of the collar, an efiect which cannot be obtained when such edgeportions of the band are unduly thickened.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A launderable fold-collar comprisingha in t e band, the exposed end-portions of the top retreating obliquely inwardly from the neighboring edge of the band and its insorted end-portions similarly retreating obliquely inward between the band-plies.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 12th .day of July, 1915.
