To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ORVIN E. MCQUEEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Goles and State of Illinois, have invented certain useful Improvements in Self-Soaping Washboards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

The present invention has reference generally to improvements in that class of inventions known as laundry and more particularly relates to a self soaping washboard.

As the primary aim and object it is contemplated by this invention to so construct the rubbing plate of the washboard so that soap may be fed to the outer or rubbing surface of the rubbing plate whereby when clothes are being rubbed thereover soap will be applied thereto during the rubbing action.

It is an equally important object of this invention to provide novel soap containing means mounted in the back part of the washboard so that soap contained in the receptacle will be arranged in communication with the outer surface of the rubbing plate.

As an additional object the present invention embraces the provision of novel spring pressed follower means mounted in the receptacle for yieldingly holding the soap within the receptacle against the slots in the rubbing plate which establish communication between the outer surface of the rubbing plate and the receptacle, the soap being held. against the slots to prevent the passage of water therethrou h while clothes are being rubbed on the rub ing plate.

More particularly the present invention consists in the provision of sprin meansof a novel construction for yielding y holding the follower cover late against the soap in the receptacle and or permitting of the re; moval of the plate when it is desired to refill the receptacle.

It is .a more specific object of the present invention to rovide improved means for maintaining t 1e soap receptacle in the back board.

Among the other aims and objects of this invention may be recited the provision of a device of the character mentioned with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple,

forming a part hereof, and wherein is disclosed for the purpose of illustration a convenient and satisfactory embodiment of the invention. It is to be noted in this connection that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the principle of operation of the various parts.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 1s a rear elevation of the improved washboard;

Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof;

Fig. 3 is an enlar ed fragmentary vertical section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1 in the direction in which the arrows point; and

4 is an enlarged transverse section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1 in the direction in which the arrows point.

Similar reference characters are employed in all of the above described views to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring, now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there is provided a washboard including a supporting frame and consisting of a top board 1 from the res ective ends of which do end supporting side legs 2. A back board 3 is rigidly mounted between .the supporting legs and is arranged in abutting relation with the top board being ositioned adjacent the rear surface thereo? and provided with a rectangular opening 4 for a purpose that will presently appear. The transverse bar 5 is mounted between the legs 2 adjacent the lower or outer ends thereof while a corrugated rubbing plate 6 has its respective ends secured to the front face of the backboard and to the transverse bracing bar 5. The upper end of the transverse corru ated rubhing plate 6 terminates in substantial alinement with the lower edge of the top board while the inner corrugated portions '1 are provided with elongated transverse slots 8
