To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SPURLIN J. BURRESS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carterville, in the county of Williamson and State of Illinois, have invented new and .useful Improvements in Fences, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to fences, and it has particular reference tothat class of fences which are constructed of portable panels.

The invention has for its obj ectto produce a simple and improved fence panel which is adapted to be readily connected with and disconnected from adjacent panels of similar construction.

A further object of the invention is to produce a fence panel provided at one end with eyes and at the other end with hooks for interengagement with similar hooks and eyes of adjacent panels, the eyes being also adapted to engage a fence post.

A further object of the invention is to produce a fence panel of the character described having intermediate the ends thereof a ground engaging brace which serves to connect together the fence strips of which the panel is composed.

With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifica tions within the scope of the claim may be resortedto when desired.

The improved fence panel is composed of a plurality of strips 15, said strips being preferably flat narrow metallic strips, although no limitation is necessarily made to such material, inasmuch as rods or wires might be employed. The strips 15 are connected in series by means of a brace member 16 arranged intermediate the ends thereof, said brace member being riveted upon or otherwise connected with the respective strips whichmay thus be readily folded together or collapsed for shipment or storage. Each strip is provided at one end thereof with an open eye 17 which is disposed in a horizontal plane, and each strip is provided at its other end with a hook 18 which is disposed in a vertical plane, said eyes and hooks being adapted for interengagement with similar books and eyes of adjacent fence panels.

In erecting the improved fence the eyes at one end of a fence panel are placed in engagement with a fence post 19, said post being preferably of tubular construction and adapted to be driven into or otherwise firmly set in the ground. The eyes 17 of the fence strips 15 of the second panel are now placed in engagement with the hooks 18 of the first panel, after which the second post is driven or set in the ground through the eyes of the second panel. In this manner the construc tion is proceeded with until the fence is erected. It will be seen that the post engaging eyes of the fence panels will permit the said fence panels to be adjusted at any desired angle with respect to the previous panel, thus enabling corners to be turned at right angles or at any desired angles. The general construction of the improved fence is simple, inexpensive and of such a nature as to enable the fence to be readily disassembled and removed when desired.
