To all whom it may concern: p
Be it known that I, Aenns O. Yonnes, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bozeman, in the county of Gallatin and State of Montana, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Extension Fly- Swatters; and Ido hereby declare. the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable other skilled in the art to which it apper- .tains to make and use thesame. a
This invention relates to improvements in fly swatters having an extensible handle.
The object of this invention'is to provide an eflicient flyswatting device which may be readily and quickly-assembled and the killing of the flies by swatting them with the device assured.
Afurther object of this invention is to provide a handle having a T-shaped' head to which is secured a rectangular piece of reticulated material and is so secured to the breaking at its pointof connection is eliminated.
A further object of this invention is to provide a handle having a pluralityof sections which telescope into one another when making the handle long or. short as desired.
A still further object of-this invention is to provide a fly swatting device comprising a handle having a 'l"-shaped head to which is secured a rectangular piece of reticulated material and provided with a loop through which extensible handle sections are placed when not in use and a cup for holding the lower ends of the sections together and against separation.
A further object of the invention is to Y provide a device of this character which will d0 e simple, practical and comparatively inex pensive in construction and onethat can be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost. a
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully set forth and defined in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved extensible fly swatter as made in accordance with thi invention having parts in section to more fully illustrate the details of construction.
nx'rnnsron F ewima Fig. 2 is an edge of the same with parts in section. a 1
@ Fig. 3 isa sectional view taken on the line 3+3 of Fig. 2, and H Fig. tis a sectional view taken on the line44 of Fig. 2. i
Like numerals of reference designate like and corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing. 7 Referring more particularly to the drawing the numeral 1. designates the handle which is formed of wood or any other suitable material and is preferably circular in cross section and comprises a T-headed cross bar 2- which is formed at one endof the handle'L: The T-headed cross bar 2 is subspecification of Letters Patent. 1 Patented Apr. 23, 191%.. Applieationyfiled November 1c, 1916. Serial No. 130,584=. :if
stantiallyrectangular in shape and the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully portion as at lto provide the two see hill to reinforce the reticulated material and obi viate any fear of the same breaking at its point of connection with the head due to the bending of the same when swatting flies or other insects.
The handle member 1 comprises a plurality of sections 8 and 9 which sections are substantially cylindrical in cross section and has secured to one end by rivets lOor other suitable fastening means the cups 11 which cups extend beyond the ends of their respective sections and are adapted to receive the ends of the adjacentsection therein for making the handle 1 long or short as desired. I
The cups 11 are formed of tin or other suitable metal suitable for purpose and frictionally engage the ends of the adjacent sections of th handle to hold the same therein and prevent the accidental displacement of the same in the use of the device.
' A loop 12 of wire or other suitable mate lllm rial, snbstantially vU-sh aped has, the ends of its arms bent .angtularly and securedito the handle 1 near the head 2 and adapted to re- .ceive the ends of the handles .8 and 9 therein When disconnected from their respective sec- ,tions Whenfnot innse and-a clip 13 formed of suitable metal orother material is adapted toloe arranged .on the ends of the handles when in the disconnected position to hold 10 the handles in the loop and against dis- ,t placement When the device is not in use.
" The-loop 1-2 is provided with the annu- I larl-y bent ends l l vvhic h ends are secured in the handle portionfl at diametrically opposite'pointg in grooves 15'and permit the other sections of'the handles *8 and 9 to be placed therein when the device is in an inop- QIMZIVQ posltong Y I It canbe readily seen have'the handle In operation, the handle section *is slipped upon the handle l and is held thereonhy the cup 11. The handle 9 is placed on the end of the handle 8 through the cup Copies of thin patent may be obtained for What is claimed is:-. An extension fly swatter comprising handle sections consisting of end sections, and an intermediate Section, a head formed integrallvwi'th one end of one end section, a retaining cup secured to one end of the other end section, and to one end of the interme- (112L136 section, said cup on the intermediate section adapted to be fitted over the free end of the head carrying section, the cup on one end of the other end section adapted to be fitted upon the free end of the intermediate section, a reticulated fabric secured to the opposing faces of the head carrying section, a retaining loop secured to the head carrying section and a retaining cup adapted to be fitted over the free ends of the sections when collapsed retaining the intermediate and other end section into the loop and upon the head carrying section, as and for the purpose specified.
