Description

J. W. JOHNSTON.
DiSPLAY CARD HOLDER. AP'PLICATION FILED JAN. 30. 1911.

is. or? is JOHN WHITE JGHNS'EQIE, 9F RQGHBfiTEEER), EEK
Application filed January 30, 152?.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN -W. Jonnsrron of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- Card Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will en" able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to display-card holders, and the object of the invention is to produce an improved device of this charaeter embodying efiicient means for maintaining the holder in various elevations and a simple ar 'angement of parts for varying the position of the card holding member.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view in perspective of my improved de vice. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a similar view with parts shown in section, the card holding Inemberheing shown in different positions in dotted'lines. Fig. l is aview showing the adjusting parts decached. i
Referring to the drawings, the card holder is shown as comprising a hollow standard 1 suitably supported upon a base 2 which may be either rectangular or circular inform, or of other shape. Fitted within the standard and adapted for vertical znoveinent therein is a post 3 which may be held at any desired position within the stand ard by a headed stud l projecting through any one of a series of openings 5 in the standard and into one of alined cut-outs 6 in the post. At the upper end of the latter is a bearing 7 in the form of a sleeve ar. ranged transversely of, the post and adapted to receive a short rod 8 forming a pintlc for the card holding bracket- 9 'to which it is secured by a stud 1t) which 'eeztcmls through a transverse slot 12 of the sleeve. At each end the rod Sis screw threaded and these ends are adapted to project beyond the,- uremities of the sleeve a washer l3 and thumb nut 14 completing the attachment of the rod to the sleeve and forming a means for holding the rod with-in the sleeve in whatever position it may he moved. The bracket 9 is preferably formed with a solid hack to provide a iii-in support for a display or Specification of Letters latent.

other advertising card, the edges of the card being prevented. from extending be yond the front face of the holder by flanges 15. A. slot 16 is formed either in the top or on one side of the bracket for easy insertion. of acard.
It is readily apparent that a card arranged for display in. my improved card holder may he shown at various elevations by simply removing the retaining stud and moving the post 3 within the standard, the stud being again inserted for holding the parts in their adjusted position it is like quently desirable that the card holding member may be positioned in planes other than vertical and to efieet such a change it is only necessary to loosen the thumb nuts it and to turn the card holding bracket to the position desired, after which the thumb nuts may he again turned to binding posi tion. By the construction described the card holder is only limited in its turning movement within an arc leg? the supporting standard, thus enabling a choice of many varied positions of display,
I claim as my invention:
l. A display-carol holder including a standard, a horizontally disposed sleeve at the upper end oi said standard, sai sleeve having a transverse slot a rod mounted within said sleeve, a stud secured to said speeiiicationfin the presence of two sol scribing witnesses.
