To all whom it may concern:

4 Be it known that I, Foox Brno Lows, a citizen of the Republic of China, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sanitary Toilet- Seats, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in sanitary toilet seats wherein an apertured paper web operates in conjunction with improved mechanism to move a new section of said web over the seat each time said seat is raised, and consists in the particular construction and arrangement of the parts as described and claimed in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings; and the objects of my invention are- First, to provide an improved construction for a sanitary toilet seat;

Second, to provide an improved sanitary toilet seat having few parts of simple and cheap construction having a maximum efiiciency;

Third, to, provide an improved device of the character described, having a self contained apparatus for supplying the seat with a new section of apertured paper for each occupancy of said seat.

I accomplish these several ob ects by means of the device disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present specification wherein like characters of reference are used to designate similar parts throughout the said specification and drawings, and in which-- Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved device;

Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a side elevation of Fig. 1;

Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional view disclosing the manner in which one end of the web receiving roller is mounted within one of the compartments;

Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 55 of Fig. 3; and

Fig. 6 is a side elevation of Fig. 5.

Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 is used to designate in general a hollow toilet seat of pressed metal or other suitable material provided with the usual central aperture 2 and what I term dispensing and receiving compartments 3 and 4: respectively arranged on opposite sides of the apertured seat 1. I

The ends of the receiving compartment 4 are provided with horizontally disposed slots 6 within Which are slidably mounted the bearings 7 to support the ends of a shaft or trunnions 8 of what I term a web receiving roller 9.

The receiving compartment 4 is also provided with a hollow semi-circular extension 11 within which is rotatably mounted a feed roller 12, said roller 12 being alined with the slots 6 in the ends of said compartment 1, the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully described.

An apertured paper web 14 is rolled upon a suitable roller 16 within the dispensing compartment 3 and after passing through a longitudinal slot 3 passes over the top of the apertured seat 1 and through a longi tudinal slot 4 between the compartment 1 and the extension 11 thereof and has the end secured to the receiving roller 9.

The seat 1 is provided at the rear end thereof with suitable hinges 17 which are pivotally mounted upon a horizontal rod 18 supported by suitable bearings 19 secured to the rear end of the toilet 20.

On one end. of the rod 18 is rigidly secured a bevel geared sector 21 which is engaged by a bevel pinion 22 loosely mounted upon the shaft of the feed roller 12, said pinion being provided with an annular flange 23 upon which is pivotally mounted a pawl 24 to engage a ratchet 26 rigidly secured to the shaft of the feed roller 12.

A spring 28 is coiled upon the rod 18 to engage and normally raise the seat 1 to a perpendicular position when unoccupied, as disclosed in dotted lines in Fig. 3 of the drawings.

A spring 29 is interposed between each slidable bearing 7 in the ends of the compartment 4: and the ends of the slots 6 to constantly retain the receiving roller 9 and the paper web 14 thereon in contact with the feed roller 12 whereby equal sections of the web 14 will be wound upon the receiving roller 9, regardless of the constantly increasing diameter of the paper web 14 rolled thereon, when the seat 1 is raised by the spring 28.

The dispensing compartment 3 is provided with a similar cap or cover 31 which may be removed to insert a new roll or apertured web into said compartment.

It is obvious that as soon as an occupant leaves the seat a new section of the web 14 is automatically moved onto said seat by the action of the spring 28 in raising the seat. Consequently when the next occupant lowers the seat for occupancy a new section of the web has been moved into position and the seat is ready for use.

It is evident from the foregoing that I have provided a new and improved construction for sanitary toilet seats that is simple and effective and one that may be easily and cheaply constructed of few parts to produce a maximum efliciency.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isr 1. A sanitary toilet seat comprising a hollow apertured seat having a compartment on each side thereof to receive and dispense an apertured paper ribbon; an apertured paper web threaded from the dispensing to the receiving compartment; and means for moving the web across the top of the seat from the dispensing to the receiving compartment, when the seat is raised, to register successive apertures in the web with the aperture within the hollow seat.

2. A sanitary toilet seat comprising a hollow apertured, seat having a compartment on each side thereof to receive and dispense an apertured paper ribbon; an apertured paper web threaded from the dispensing to the receiving compartment; and means for moving the web across-the top of the seat from the dispensing to the receiving compartment, when the seat is raised, to register successive apertures in the web with the aperture within the hollow seat; and means for normally raising the seat when unoccupied.

A sanitary toilet seat comprising a hollow apertured seat having parallel compartments therein; a receiving roller slidably and rotatably mounted within one of the compartments; an apertured web secured to the receiving roller and threaded across the seat and into the other compartment; a feed roller rotatably mounted adjacent the receiving roller; means for operating the feed roller when the seat is raised; and means for retaining the receiving roller in contact with the feed roller whereby said receiving roller is rotated to register successive apertures in the web with the aperture in the seat when said seat is raised.

A sanitary toilet seat comprising a hollow apertured seat having parallel compartments therein; a receiving roller slidably and rotatably mounted within one of the compartments; an apertured web secured to the receiving roller and threaded across the seat and into the other compartment; a feed roller rotatably mounted adjacent the receiving roller; means for operatin the feed roller when the seat is raised; an means for retaining the receiving roller in contact with the feed roller whereby said receiving roller is rotated to register successive apertures in the web with the aperture in the seat when said seat is raised; and means for raising the seatwhen unoccupied.

A sanitary toilet seat comprising a hollow apertured seat having compartments therein to receive rolls of an apertured web; one of said compartments having slots in the ends thereof; a feed roller rotatably mounted within the slotted compartment and in alinement with the slotstherein; a Web receiving roller rotatably mounted within the slots; means for retaining the web receiving roller in contact with the feed roller; and means for operating the feed roller when the seat is raised.

6. A sanitary toilet seat comprising a hollow apertured seat having compartments therein to receive rolls of an apertured web; one of said compartments having slots in the ends thereof; a feed roller rotatably mounted within the slotted compartment and in alinement with the slots therein; a web receiving roller rotatably mounted within the slots; means for retaining the Web receiving roller in contact with the feed roller; and means for operating the feed roller when the seat is raised; and means fornormally raising the seat when unoccupied.

7 The combination with a toilet of a 1101- low apertured seat pivotally mounted thereon and having compartments on each side thereof, one of said compartments having horizontally disposed slots in the ends thereof; a feed roller rotatably mounted adjacent the slotted compartment and in alinement with the slots therein; a web receiving roller rotatably mounted within the slots; an apertured paper web secured to the receiving roller and extending over the seat to the other compartment therein; means for retaining the web receiving roller in contact with the feed roller; a rigid geared sector alined with the pivot of the seat; a pinion meshing with the sector and loosely mounted upon the shaft. of the feed roller; and means for operatively connecting the pinion with the feed roller when the seat is raised whereby successive apertures within the Web may be registered with the aperture within the seat when said seat is raised.

8. The combination with a toilet of a 1101- low apertured seat pivotally mounted thereon and having compartments on each side thereof, one of said compartments having horizontally disposed slots in the ends thereof; a feed roller rotatably mounted adjacent the slotted compartment and in alinement with the slots therein; a web receiving roller rotatably mounted within the slots; an apertured paper web secured to the receiving roller and extending over the seat to the other compartment therein; means means for operatively connecting the pinion I with the feed roller when the seat is raised whereby successive apertures within the web may be registered with the aperture within the seat When said seat is raised; and means for normally raising the seat when unoccupied.
