To'aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that We, WILLIAM A. GELLER and FERN D. HUNT, citizens of the United.

States, residing at, Los Angelcs, in the county of Los' Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful liniproi'einents in laperfh upport and A tljustalilo-Fitop Attachments for Typofii ritors, of wliiclithe following is a specification.

'lhis-invention relates to a paper support and an adjustable paper stop for typowriters.

It is an object of this invention to provide a stop for attachment upon a typewriter which will not in cooperation with the paper to determine the spacing of the printed matter a'nrl'the point of its conclusion at the hottom of the sheet.

' Another object of this invention is to proi'iile an attachment which may he readily ap ilie-il to inostltypewriters and which may he usecl'without alteration of the typewriting machine. r p Another object is to provide a stop attachment which may he .tletachably noun totl lll'fllll illt. typewriter and which is provided with adj ustalile guide means.

Another objcrt is to provide a stop attachment to be mounted upon a typewriter "whieh will act cooperatively withtho platen roll to visibly notify the typist when a verta'in .protletorn'iinod point throughout the length of the paper has liecn reached.

Another object is to provide a stop for use upon typewriters which will act to support the sheet. of paper being writlon upon in a manner to allow the typist to view the entire printed page at all times.

Another object isto provide an adjustment means for the stop which adjustment will he simply and ofl'eotively made Without the use of auxiliary clamping members.

A further object is to provide a paper stop attachment for typewriters which will he siinplo in construction, cheap to nianufacture, and not liable to get out of order.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

Vi liei'i the device is to be used, the extensions l8 and l.) of the jaw members are pressed-toward each other, this acting to open the jaws against the action of the spring member 16. The edge of the shield 12 is; then inserted. between the jaws with the member 19 extending downwardly when released. The binding action of the spring monbe? 16 will the jaws to-forcibly grip the shield 12 and hold the device in position thereon. As. shown in F 1, the paper supporting member 530 will extend upwiurdly and on wrdly from the shield in a manner to so; iort the pape 'flat in a visible peition be the typist. The firmer membox 29- may then be moved up or down the length of the spring wire guide portions 23 until the paper engaging tang; or stop 32 is in. proper position to indicate the point of conclusion ot' the printed matter upon the sheet. The opposed resiliency oi the wire members 23 will act in opposition to each other within the members 30 and 31 to hold the finger 29 at point desired, bothv against sliding and turningmovement.

When the device is used the sheet of paper within the machine will move upwardly and outwardiy over the paper support 20,

until the upper marginal edge of the sheet abuts against the stop 32 formed on the end of the guide finger 29.- When this point is reached the desired length of written matter will have been printed upon the sheet. Further rotation of the platen roll will cause the sheet to buckle in a manner to visibly notify the typist that the predetermined conclusion of the page has been reached. It will be seen that even though the typist has given no attention to the relation between the upper edge of the paper and the engaging stop portion 32, the buckling action of the paper will instantly act as a Warning. i j

It will thus be seen that we have provided a paper stop attachment for typewriters which is extremely simple in construction and operation and which will readily and positively act as a stop in determining in an automatic manner the conclusion of the printed matter on a sheet being typewritten.

We claim:

A paper support and adjustable stop for typewriters comprising a clamp adapted to engage the typewriter shield, a pair of complementary triangular wire members mounted side by side with two adjacent wires in parallel position and the ends of the wires rigidly fixed to the jaw of the clamp, a stop body, parallel bearings rigid with the stop body and slidingly mounted. upon the par allel'wires, and a stop finger extending upwardly from the stop body; said triangular wires serving to support the printed paper as it comes from the typewyitey and said stop finger being adjustable ans 1n position to be engaged by the top edge of the printed sheet to indicate "when a desired amount of printing has been done.
