Application filed January 6, 1917. Serial No. 140,942.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLAvn IV. ANDREWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charleston, in the county of Mississippi and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strainer Attachments for Drive-Nell Points, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in drive well points and has particular reference to means for securing preferably noncorrosive strainer members in proximity to the openings of the point.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and durable.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

Fig. 4 is a similar view taken on line 44 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the tubular body portion of the point, the lower end of which is closed by a tapered cap 6, rigidly secured thereto, by any suitable means.
The body portion 5 is provided with a suitable number of openings 7, for the inlet and outlet of water.
As shown in Fig. 2, my improved strainer attachment comprises a preferably annular plate 8 preferably formed of copper or other non-corrosive metal, and provided with an annular flange 9, to project into the opening 7. The flange 9 fits into a cup-shaped body portion 10 of a strainer member, having an edge or flange 11, arranged beneath the plate 8, as shown. This strainer member is preferably formed of copper mesh or gauze.
The flange 11 is secured to the. plate 8 by means of solder, which also serves to secure the entire device upon the body portion 5.
In Fig. 3, the flange 9 fits snugly within the opening 7, and a section of copper wire gauze 12 is arranged upon the top of the plate 8 and is bentthereunder, as shown. The wire gauze 12 is soldered to the plate 8, which is in turn soldered to the body portion 5.
In Fig. 4, a perforated preferably copper plate 13 spans the opening 7, and a section of copper wire gauze 14 is arranged therebeneath and has a cup-shaped portion 15, projecting into the. opening 7. The plate 13 is soldered to the wire gauze 12 and to the body portion 5.
From the foregoing description it is believed that the construction and operation of the devices should be obvious.
It is to be understood that the forms of my invention herewith shown and described are to be taken as preferred-examples of the. same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In apparatus of the character described, the combination with a tubular body portion having an opening formed therein, of a plate arranged upon the body portion adjacent the opening and provided with an opening disposed in proximity to the first named opening, a section of foraminous material arranged inwardly of the plate and between the plate and the body portion and spanning said openings and having a cup-shaped portion extending into the opening of the body portion for a substantial distance whereby the bottom portion of said cupshaped portion is disposed a substantial distance inwardly of the outer wall of the tubular body portion, and means to secure the plate to the tubular body portion.
2. In apparatus of the character described, the combination with a tubular body portion having an opening formed therein, of a plate spanning the opening and secured to the tubular body portlon and provided with nae-@ 170 a plurality of apertures, a section of foramiportion, and means for securing the plate to nous material arranged beneath the plate the tubular body portion.
