COMPOSITION FOR WATERPROOFING AND PRESERVING LEATHER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NORA MOLAUGHLIN, a citizen of the United States and State of Washington, residing at Seattle, l/Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compositions for Waterproofing and Preserving Leather, of which the following is a full, true, and exact specification.

My invention has for its principal object to, provide an improved composition which when applied to leather such as gloves and the like will Water-proof and preserve them. In the use of whitekid gloves and the like it has been found that drops of water as well as many other substances will stain, and that the stains are very difficult to remove, and continued cleaning will make the gloves more susceptible to stains. I have invented an improved substance and process for treating gloves and the like so that they are not affected by drops of water, or similar substances. I

Other objects will appear as my invention is more fully explained in the following specification, and pointed out in the appended claims.

My process consists of taking the following ingredients in the following quantities and mixing them together at a temperature of about 60 Fahrenheit: paraffin one part by volume, turpentine six parts, benzin ten parts, oil of cloves part, oil of citronella part, oil of cedar part. I

After these ingredients have been thoroughly incorporated by agitation the result- Specification of Letters Patent.

ing composition is applied directly to the' leather by means of a cloth or brush, and any excess which is not absorbed by the leather is wiped offs It is important that the substance be at a temperature above the melting point of the paraflin at the time of application.

In the process the paraffin is carried into the pores of the leather, and the leather is thereby rendered water proof and pliable.

While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and I therefore desire to avoid being limited to the exact proportions described.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:

1. A leather cleaning and preserving compositioncomposed of parafiin one part-by volume, turpentine six parts by volume, benzin ten parts by volume, oil of cloves part by volume, oil of citronella part by volume, oil of cedar tpart by volume, thoroughly agitated and mixed together at a temperature above the melting point of the parafiin.

2. A leather cleaning and preserving composition comprising paraffin, turpentine, benzin, oil of cloves, oil of citronella, and oil of cedar substantially in the proportions described.
