To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS J. CnIBBs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clear-water, in the county of Pinellas and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Currycombs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention. relates to curry combs and has for its object the production of an improved form of self-cleaning curry comb.

More specifically this invention contemplates a curry comb formed from a single piece of inherently spring metal bent so as to form a pair of complemental plates, one having a plurality of teeth thereon and the other having means for cleaning said teeth.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a self-cleaning curry comb of the kind above described that is simple in construction, eiiicient in operation, and consists of a minimum number of parts.

With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the device with the curry comb in position ready for use;

Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same as shown in Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View of the improved device with the plates thereof in spaced apart relation.

This device is formed from a single piece of metal, the same being bent to form a handle 10 and plates 11 and 12, the said plates 11 and 12 being normally positioned as shown in Fig. 3, owing to the spring metal usedto construct this device. A plurality of teeth 13 are struck from the plate 11, the same being bent at right angles thereto as is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3. These teeth have the engaging faces thereof serrated as at 14 for an obvious purpose. The plate 12 has a plurality of openings 15 formed therein the said openings being ar ranged so as to be alined with the teeth 13 and the said teeth are passed through these openings when the plates 11 and 12 are in engagement. A spring catch 16 is provided on the plate 12 at the opposite end thereof from the handle 10 and is adapted to engage theend of the plate 11, opposite from the handle 10 and retains the plates in engagement as is clearly shown in Fig. 1. When the device is positioned as has heretofore been set forth and as is clearly shown in Fig. 1, the same is in an operative position and can easily be manipulated in that the handle 10 forms a ready grip. When the teeth 13'become clogged, all that is necessary to clean the sameis to move the spring catch 16 from engagement with the plate 11, this being accomplished preferably by engaging the spring catch 13 with an object and the plates 11 and 12 will, because of the spring character of the metal, move to the position as shown in Fig. 3, or in other words move the teeth 13 through the openings 15, thus removing therefrom all matter that may be clogged between the teeth.

It is obvious that minor changes may be madein the form and construction of this device without departing from the material parts thereof. It is therefore not wished to confine the invention to the exact form and construction herein shown and described, but-it is wished to include all such as properly comes within the scope claimed.

What is claimed is In a curry comb formed from a strip of resilient material bent to form a handle, a pair of opposed plates extending from said handle and normally positioned in spaced relation, one of the same having a plurality of teeth thereon, the other of the same having a plurality of openings formed therein to receive said teeth when said plates are in engagement and means to releasably retain said plates in engagement as and for the purpose set forth.
