To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMANN WERNER, cutler,

in the Confe eration of Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relat ing to Shaving Devices, of which thefollowing is a specification.

The object of the invention is the provision of an improved shaving device somewhat similar to the well known barbers shearing machines, but constructed so as to shave evenlyto the surface of the skin'without the need of soap, and with the same degree of perfection as is obtained with a common razor, or with a so-called safety-razor. In" the well-known shearing-machines as commonly constructed there is a stationar protecting-comb the outer face of whic when in use bears-against the skin while the cutting-combmoves on the inner faceof the said protecting-comb.

In my improved shaving device to the contrary it is the cutting-comb which ,is made stationary and is adapted with its outer hollow face to bear against the skin,

while the protecting-comb moves on the in-' nor side of the said cutting-comb, and both combs work together like a pair of scissors upon the heard to be cut.

The handle b is fitted with a screw 6 acting against the s ring contained in the casing a to normal y maintain the handles in their spread positions as shown. The handle b is also provided with a tooth b for engaging a recess d in the movable protecting comb d in order to cause a reciprocating movement the handles toward one another and releasing the same.

I also employ a bolt 6, see Fig. 6 which acts as a pivot for joining the handles a and 6 together and securing the combs c and d to said handles. The pressure of the parts on one another is made yielding by means of a bent washer e which maintains the combs in working contact with each other and at the same time on the comb without undue friction.

As shown in Fig. 7, the stationary cuttingcomb c is provided with a hollow face a which makes its use possible and ractical on the neck and checks; and it is to e noted that the teeth of the movable protectingcomb (2 project appreciably beyond those of the comb 0 so as to prevent cutting into the skin during the shaving operation.

Furthermore the handles a and b are shaped in such a way that the operator may easily apply the blade 0 to any part of the face, which, so far as I am aware is not possible with the shearing-machines heretofore in use.

I claim as my invention:

1. A shaving instrument comprising a pair of pivoted handles, a stationary cut teeth whic project materially beyond the teeth of the cutting comb, and means actuated by the operation of thehandles for reciprocating the guard comb and the stationary cutt'm comb to cause these parts to cooperate to e feet the cutting in the use of the instrument.

2. A' shaving instrument comprising a pair of pivoted handles, a stationary cutting comb having a concave surface a apted to of the comb d by drawing ermits the comb d to move be applied to the skin, a guard member having teeth which project materially beyond the teeth of the cutting comb, and means actuatedt by the operation of the handles for reciprocating the guard comb on the stationary cutting comb to cause these parts to cooperate to efiect the cutting in the use of the instrument.

3. A shaving instrument comprising a pair of handles, a stationary cutting comb having a concave surface adapted to be applied to the skin, a guard comb the teeth of which project materially beyond the teeth of the cutting comb, a rib on one of the said handles extending into a recess provided therefor in the said guard comb to guide aeemee the same by the movement of the said handles, and a pin for pivotally connecting the said handles and maintaining the saidcombs ieldin l in o erative contact with one any other 4 In testimony whereof I haveaafiixed my signature in presence of two itnesses.
