Description

Oct. 5 192e.
J. HILSER, SR
HAIR TRIMMER Filed August 17, 1925 Patented Oct. 5, 1.926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH HILSER, SR., F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
HAIR TRIMMER.
My present invention has reference to a combined hair trimmer and comb.
My object is the provision of an article' for this purpose characterized by simplicity in construction, cheapness in manufacf ture and thorough efficiency in practlcal use.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists-in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a similar view of a second form of the improvement.
Figure 3 is an end view of the construction illustrated in Figure 2.A
As disclosed by the drawings my improvement contemplates the employment of m a fiat body member 1 which has one of its ends merging into a handle 2. The fiat body 1, on one of its edges, is formed with projecting teeth 3. These teeth are of a width to extend laterally beyond one of the n faces of the body. The teeth are all of the same length, and .the upper edges thereof are notched, as at 4. The notches are inclined toward the edge of the body on which the teeth are formed, and these aligning 80 notches provide a pocket for a cutting blade. In Figure 1 of the drawings an ordinary razor blade 5 has its haft 6 pivotally secured, as at 7, to the handle 2 of the body.
In this form of the device the improvement may be successfully employed asa razor,
comb, or as a hair trimmer. It will be aparent that when the cutting edge of the blade 5 is received in the notches 4 of the teeth 3, that by vdrawing the teeth through the hair the said hair will be effectively trimmed. The depth of the cut is regulated by reversin the position of the device on the head o the person operated on. The inner edges of the teeth are closer to the body, and when these edges are brought against the hair the latter will be trimmed only slightly. A deeper cut is made when the opposite faces of the teeth are arranged against the hair.
In Figure 2, the body 1 has its edge oppo site that formed with the teeth thickened in the direction of-thev teeth and this thickened portion, from theinner edge thereof is channeled longitudinally as at 10 to provide van outer flange 9. The channel also enters the body 1 so thatthe central portion of the body is thus thickened on the face thereof provided with the teeth and flange and this portion of the body will exert a pressure against la safety razor blade when the latter isarranged between the flange and teeth to fiex said blade and cause the edge thereof to tightly engage with the-flange and teeth so that the blade will be effectively held on the body.
The simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the artto which such invention relates when the foregoing description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
Having described the invention, I claim In a device for the purpose set fortlna body having a handle and having one of its edges formed with projecting teeth which are of a greater thickness than that of the body so that one of the edges of the said teeth extend beyond one face of the body, said teeth having their upper ends notched at a downward inclination and said body having its edge. opposite that provided with the teeth thickened and channeled longitudinally from the inner edite thereof to provide a depending flange, and the said channel entering the body to render this portion of the body of a less thickness than the remainder of the body, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
. JOSEPH HILSER, SR.
