Description

C. B. SWARTZl DiSPLAY CABINET,
APPLICATION m50 mmm, 3915.
LMLM@ Patented 56pm. 25, 1917.

CHARLES BLAIR SWARTZ, OF BRDFORD, PENNSYLVANIA.
DISPLAY-CABINET.
Application filed May 24, 1916.
To all whom z'zf may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES BLAIR SWARTZ, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Bradford,l Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification. My present invention relates to improvements in display cabinets and has'among its objects to provide a simple and attractive form of cabinet designed particularly for the display of articles of mens furnishings, in which a large number of articles may be kept on display, from which the selected article may be readily withdrawn when a sale is effected and which cabinet will contain a storage compartment for holding a supply of articles to replace those withdrawn from the display compartments.
The invention includes the novel features of construction and the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and particularly defined by the appended claims. An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation, and Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively top lplan and bottom sectional views of the cabinet Awithout its supporting stand.
. any number of articles nor to displaying .40
any particular character of goods.
Referrin by reference characters to the drawing, t e numeral 1 designates a suitable base or pedestal upon which the cabinet proper is rotatably mounted. This comprises a receptacle 2 formed of any suitable material and preferably of sheet metal.
I prefer to make the cabinet of tapered form,
in which event it would preferably be square at the top, the walls 2 abutting each other, as shown in Fig. 2, and the spaces formed by the divergence of the walls 2EL being filled by the corner strips 2b, so that the case would have an octagonal appearance at the base.
One of these walls 2al is made in the form of a hinged door, being hinged at the point 2c and provided at its opposite edge with any Specification of Letters Patent.
convenient form of fastening means (not shown). Each wall 2a is provlded with projecting vertical side walls 3 and transverse top andl bottom walls 3 and intermediate partitions 3b, the bottom wall 3 and the intermediate partitions 3" forming shelves, upon which the boxes containing the articles to be displayed are supported, the covers of the boxes beind first removed and'placed in reversed position upon the bottoms of the l wall 3, so that the boxes may be readily lnserted in and'withdrawn from the compartments, and the dimensions of each comox fits snugly therein so that a minimum Vamount of dust may gain access to the articles on display.
To enable the boxes to be more readily withdrawn from the compartments, I provide the glass with notches 4b approximately arranged centrally of the side of each compartment to enable the finger to engage the Patented Sept. 25, 1917. Serial No. 99,638. ,-:I':
lpartment are preferably made such that the edge of the box. The central storage space 5 within the vcabinet provides for the storage of a considerable number of boxes, from which said boxes may be removed as desired to replace those on display.
A cabinet, as above described, provides for the display of aI large number of articles, supports them in'a protected manner, enables the ready removal of any one of the boxes which has been sold without disturbing the others and ermits the sold boxes to be readilyv replace by the salesman, if desired, immediately upon the departure of the customer without the salesmans having to leave the cabinet.
Having thus described my invention what I Claim 1s 1. A display cabinet having a central storage space and a plurality of display compartments carried by the walls thereof, one of said walls being hinged to provide access to the storage space, said compartments havioo ing glass covers and lateral openings to permit boxes carrying the articles to hbe displayed to be laterally inserted in sa1d compartments.
2. A display cabinet comprising asuitable base and a cabinet rotatably mounted thereon and comprising a plurality of side Walls forming-a v`central storagespace, one
of said Walls being hinged to aord access to'the'storage space and said side walls having a side andtransverse projecting members forming compartments opened at the s other side and glass panes removably held over said compartments, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I aiiix my signature.
CHARLES BLAIR sWART'z.
