METHOD FOR RENEWING WGRN-QUT PLOW-POINTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CYRUS J. CONARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Olney Springs, in the county of Crowley, State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Method for Renewing orn Out Plow-Points; and I do hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact doscription of the invention, such as will on able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved method for renewing or repointing the point of a worn out plow.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view of a plow point and a plate in position, thereby disclosing the lirst step for renewing the worn out point of the plow.
Fig. :2 is a view disclosing the second step.
Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation showing the lug carried by the plate to be welded to the point as having been headed, which is the third step in the method for renewing a worn out p-low point.
Fig. i is a view showing the plate to be welded to the plow point, as having been bent, which is the fourth step in renewing the worn out plow point.
Fig. 5 is a view of the plow point entirely renewed.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view oi the plate and its lugs, to be welded to the worn out plow point.
Fig. 7 is a detail perspective view of a worn out plow point, illustrating the enlargement 11, which constitutes sutiicient body or metal stock to which said plate may be welded, so that the plow point may be properly renewed.
L-teterring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates a plow point, which is provided with an opening 4, whereby the plow point may be fastened to the plow standard (not shown). The plow point or portion 5 when 't becomes worn or dull may be renewed or repo nted. This renointing is accomplished, y first heating the point 5 from a to Z) sufficiently for welding purposes, as indicated bv the shade lines 6, after which a piece of malleable sheet steel 7 of suitable size and shape, preferably as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 6 is first attached to the heated point 5, as shown in Fig. 2. This plate or piece of sheet metal 7 is provided with a spur 8 upon one oi". its faces, which spur is rectangular in cross section. However, the sheet metal plate 7 (which may be any desired thickness) remains cold. After heating the point to a suitable heat, the plate 7 (which remains cold) is arranged as illustrated in Fig. 1. The spur 8 is then driven transversely through the point after which the extremity of the spur is riveted or clenched, as shown in Fig. 3. The rectangular shape of the spur 8 prevents twisting or displacement of the plate 7. l'Vhile the plate is attached as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the plate and the point are then brought to welding heat, after which the plate is bent as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and then to the full line position in Fig. 1', and subsequently completely welded to the point 5, and drawn out thereby providing a renewed plow point. In other words, a plow point, which is completely renewed, as shown at 10 in The plow pointhas a flange and adjacent where said flange merges into said point 5, an enlargement ll is provided, thereby affording sutticient stock through which the spur may be driven, and whereby the point may be welded when attaching the plate 7.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is The method herein described or renewing the point of a worn out plow, consisting in applying to one side of the worn point a plate of suitable size and shape and having a spur adjacent one edge thereof, driving said spur entirely through the plow point, heading the projecting end thereof, bending the plate around the worn point, heating the wholeto a welding heat, and then welding the whole together, by percussive blows, and simultaneously drawing out the metal of the plate to term the renewed point.
