To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES A. DIEOK- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warrenton, in the county of Varren and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anvil-Blocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to anvils specially adapted for use in connection with plows; and it consists of an anvil block or anvil formed as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of an anvil block constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2is an end view of the block. Fig. 3 is a side view. Fig. 4 is also a side view, but looking in the opposite direction from Fig. 3.
The block 2 forms the top portion of an anvil, and it may be formed or forged solid with the base of the anvil, or it may be formed separate from the anvil as ordinarily constructed and arranged to rest on it. When formed separate from the anvil, the block 2 has suitable flanges 3, or other approved means, for positioning it on the anvil.
The block 2 has a flat surface 4 at one end for the landside of the plow, and it has a raised portion 5 at its middle part. The raised portion 5 has a vertical end 6 adjacent to the surface 4, and this end 6 is arranged diagonally of the block so that a point 7 is formed at one side edge of the block.
The surface of the raised portion 5 is inclined to the horizontal, the longer side 8 of the raised portion being much lower than its opposite and shorter side. forms an abutment for against which its edge is sharpened. The pointed portion 7 forms an abutment for use in welding the plow point to the plow share, and it enables the point to be welded on without kinking the share.
The lower part 9 of the raised portion 5 adjacent to the side edge 8 is slightly concave, as shown in Fig. 4, so that the pointed portion forms a good abutment. The other end 10 of the raised portion 5 from the point is arranged at substantially a right angle to the sides of the block and is rounded over. A slot 12 is formed crosswise of the block parallel to the end 10 and at a comparatively short distance from it. This slot is used in leveling or straightening the landside, and its bottom is inclined upwardly from the thicker to the thinner part of the raised portion 5. The slot 12 is also inclined a little from the vertical.
What I claim is:
A plow anvil, comprising a block having a flat surface at one end portion, and having a raised portion adjacent thereto, said raised portion having one end arranged diagonally of the block and forming a point at one side of the block, the pointed side of the raised portion being longer than its opposite side and the surface of the block being inclined from its shorter to its longer side, and the opposite end portion of the raised part being rounded and provided with a slot extending crosswise of the block.
