WALL-swims Iron nisirniv'r oolvii-ion onsets-SUPP To all whom it may concern": 4 Be it known that I, ADOLPH SPIELMAN, a citizen of theUIiited States, residing at Philadelphia, in the countyof Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and. useful Improved Wall- SWitch for Distant Control of Gassupply, of which the following is a specification.
- "The principal objeotsof the present invention are to provide anew and novel form of wall switch for the distant control of gas supply whichisof' simple and inexpensive construction;.which is efiicient and reliable in operation and which is reversible in char acter so that it may be adaptable foruse in connection with a single gas fixture or a battery of gas fixtures. With these and other objects in view the invention consists of the improvements hereinafter described and finally claimed. j j
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:
Figure 1, is a view in elevation of the wall switch illustrating the application of the same to a gas chandelier.

For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at pres ent preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Referring to the drawings there is shown, for the purpose of illustration, the application of the wall switch of the invention to a gas chandelier as used in a residence. Obviously, the switch is applicable for use in connection with other forms of gas fixtures or burners. In the drawings 10, designates a gas chandelier, 11 designates the usual gas inlet connection and 12 a pilot light connection. 13 designates a valve of a type adapted to be alternately turned off and on by similar successive movements of valve Specification of Letters Patent. The valve 13 and operating means 14: are contained within and concealed by the chandelier canopy 15 and thepilot tube 12 is concealed throughout the major portion of its length by the chandelier parts. In practice the valve 13 is provided with a rotary plug equipped with a toothed segment 16 and'thevalve operating means 14: which is pivotally disposed is provided with a toothed portion 17 for meshing there with. These connections form part of separate and independent inventions, consequently, further description is not necessary in this case. The valve operating means 14 is connected by anarr'angement of wiring with the wall switch 18 of 1611117611- tion. -Connecting the-freeend of the pivotalfvalve operating means 14 and one arm of a'bell-crank lever 19 isa wire 20 and connecting the other arm of the bell-crank lever and "the curved and pivotal arm 2l"of the wall switch 18 is a wire 22. A spring 23 is connected to the free end of valve operating means 14 to insure the latter always returning to its position of rest, after movement of the wall switch lever 24:, it being understood that the lever 24 also is returned to initial position by the spring 23. In practice the switch 18 is secured to a wall 25,
and if desired the wiring may be concealed therebehind.
A detailed description of the switch 18 will now be given. 26 designates a flat plate of rectangular configuration apertured as at 27 for the passage therethrough of screws or the like for attaching the plate 26 to the wall 25. Pivoted to the rear of the plate 26 adjacent one of its narrow ends, as at 28, is an elongated lever 24: the free end of which is provided with an operating handle 29 the shank 31 of which is projected through and works in a slot 30 formed upon an arc of a circleadjacent the end of the plate opposite the pivot point of the lever 29. The free end of the shank 31 is burred as at 32 and the handle is provided with a shoulder 33 so that said handle is afforded a snug sliding fit with respect to the plate 26. In this which is apertured as at 21 to receive the wire 22. The head of the stud 35 and the eccentric 86 arepositioned so as tolie-b'e tween the plate 26 and lever 24, The eccentric 36 has formed peripherally thereof a notch 37 which engages at all times a pin 38 fixedrto the lever-=24.
