; -ADJUSTABLE URTAIN PQLE BRACKET.-
To all whom it may concern. j Be it known that I, A XAND RCHRISTIE M ARTHUR, a subject of the Kingdom of Great Britain, and residentat Grafton, in
the countyof Clarence and State of New South Wales, Australia, medical practitioner, have invented anew and useful Device Entitled Adjustable 'Curt'ain- Pole Brackets, of which the following is a spool fication.
My invention relates to a hanging device.
for curtains whereby these articles can be kept clear of the wall and may be readily lowered for changing or other purposes.
According hereto poles for carrying curtains are supported in rings on brackets secured to the wall one oneach side of the window. 1 y
Means are employed for retaining the brackets in any desired position.
The inventionisillustrated in the accorn panying drawings in which j Figure l is a front plan of all the parts in Fig. 3 shows a frontand side view of part 16; Fig. 4 is a front and side view of part 18; and Fig. 5 is a front and side view of 25. All the drawings are one half actual size. Referring to F igs. 1 and 2, the bar 1 tapers from the upper end 10 to the lower end 9. A ring 2 is at the upperendof the bar 1,
through which the pole 8 passes and by which it is held in position. The bifurcated extremity 3 from 9 to 11 consists of two branches each in the formof a double arc, v the ends of which hit into and form hinges with 6 at The plates 4 have 3 holes 12,
dow. Each plate 4 has two-pairs of semicircular lugs-6, the lugs of each pair placed at one of the ends of the plate are separated,
bya space 7 into which the rounded ends of 3 fit and by means of pins riveted form the hinges 5. r I
, 1, 2, 3, of Figs. and 2', are cast in one piece and, the plane of the ring 2 is at right angles to the plane of the bifurcation 3.
Fig. 2 shows one semicircular lug 13 on the back of the upper end ofb'ar 1.1 14- is an eyelet in 13 with edges rounded off smooth for the cord 15, Fig. 1. I
1, 2, and 3 by means of the hinges 5 form with plate 4 each bracket.
Fig. 3, shows front and 'side views ,re-
throughwhich cord'15 passes.

spectively of plate 16. It hastwo holes 20 by which it is secured to the wall, and in the middle, one semicircular lug17 with an eye.- let- 21, with. edges rounded off smooth tively ofplate 18. It-hasthree holes 19 by i which it is secured to the wall, and'two' semicircular lugs 22, the upper placed 'vertically, the lower-horizontally. Each lug 22 t has an eyelet'23 with' edges rounded off smooth forthe passage of the cord 15.
-F 5, is a front and side view of a screw knob 25.
' The device is worked as follows :The
of window, the upper eyelet 23 of 22, Figs.
1 and 4, being opposite to the eyelet 14 of 13 Fig. 2 onthe same side. Plate 16, Figs. 1 J and-3, is secured to the wall at 20 on the left side of window, the eyelet 21 of 17 Figs. 1
jis'secured to the wall at 19 on the right side and 3 being opposite to the eyelet 14 of 13" r Fig. 2, on the same side. A cord 15 Fig. 1, of the required length has its free ends threaded,'the upper one through eyelet 23 of upper lug 22 onplate 18, Figs. land 4, the lower one through eyelet 23 of lowerlug 22 on plate 18,Figs. 1 and 4. The upper cord is carried across the top of the window,
threaded through eyelet 21 of 17 on plate 16,
Figs. 1 and 3 on the left side, then threaded I 2 through eyelet 14 of 13 at the back of the upper end of bar 1F igs. 1 and 2 on the same side and knotted. The lower cord on the rightjside isthreaded through eyelet 14 of 13 atthe back of'the upper end of bar 1,
Figs. 1 and 2, on the same side and knotted. This leaves a long loop end free, on pulling both cords at the one time the brackets 1, 2
and 3, with the pole 8 through the rings 2 can be raised-or lowered. vA knot ismade I inthe double cord of the loop end, at a place that will not interfere with the full lowering-of the curtain-pole, and passed over the 'knob 25 Figs. 1 and 5 secured to'the wall,
which then holds the upraised bracket with pole. On releasing cord 15 from knob 25, the brackets with the pole can be gradually lowered to within easy reach and the curtains readily affixed to the curtain rings on the pole. On releasing 15 from 25 the rings 2 fbrackets'1','2 and 3, with p'ol e 8 describe provided with a fo rkgat one'end," the arms hinges acting as centers.
